Out of all the fish I see caught on TV (or the internet), I have been salavating over the prospect of hooking abig walleye.  Unfortunately I've got to figure out where to go here in Oregon.  So far, the only bodie of water I know of is the Columbia River.  With the winds on the  Columbia gourge churning up waves that I cannot handle with my little 11 foot aluminum boat, the idea of catching a walleye seems to be elduing me.

So, does anyone know of any bodies of water in Oregon that might provide a walleye without getting my son and I killed, or do I just need to pull a Sherriff Brodey and "Get a bigger boat"?

Does the Oregon DNR or equivalent have a were to fish section on their website? Here in Illinois, the DNR publishes a "where to fish" section as part of the annual regulations and info booklet. Best of luck. Tom

The ODFW (Dept of Fish and Wildlife) does have a "Where to Fish" page.  However, it seems that ODFW has rules against actually doing thier homework and verifying information before posting it on their web site.  Also, most of the data (other than the stocking schedules and fishing reports) remains unchanged for the past 5 or 6 years.  When looking at the fishing reports, I find that only data on Salmon, Steelhead or Trout is reported.  Other fish might have a side note, but for the most part, nothing to take seriously.

Good idea, but unless someone takes over their IT department and makes the web site a priority and actually has people putting research together to make the information reliable and keep it up to date, the web site is kind of a "rumors" web page.

Even thier "Stocking Schedule" is incorrect 80% of the time.

Sorry to hear that someone else has problems with the conservation dept in their state. I thought we had a lock on ineptitude here in Il due to our gone but not miss ed ex gov. I never see anything that mentions walleye in the same article with Oregon, seems everything there is trout and salmon. If the river near you is to wild for an 11' boat, there probably aren't many walleye, the like current but not that much! If you do find a spot and catch a few, Sue-Bee Honey has a good breading recipe that should be available on their web site. Tom

The current isn't the big problem.  The Columbia river is quite large, and the canyon (Gourge) creates a funnel affect for the creation of 30-40 mph winds on a regular basis.  The waves created would turn me upside down in a matter of seconds.  It does, however, create some of the best sailboarding in the country.  If you want to see some of the walleye caught on the columbia, check out http://www.columbiafishing.com/trop...htm.  My son and I have booked this guy to take us out this June.  We are hoping for a very good time!

I hope he turned this fish into the wildlife and parks that is a Zander. Not a Walleye it is a breed of them however and I did not know they were on the Columbia River.
