Well, here is my take, and given how it seems the only way to get anything done with the club is to pester them. I would call every day, 2 or 3 times per day, just to make a point. You know, as much as I hate to admit it, I really wanted to be patient with them, to give them an opportunity to get things done. And while a year may seem like plenty of time, sometimes it isn't. Given how many apparent problems they are having with technical issues, the turn over in manufacturers, and the lack of training the customer service people have, these are things that do take time to fix. However, when simple requests are made, things that take all of 2 minutes to handle, are blown off - in your case mailing you a simple form, well let's just say, now maybe is the time to add some heat to the stew. I would suggest to all the members that any time something bugs you about the way the club is or is not doing something, call member services, and keep calling them until either they get off their butts and get it fixed, or they hire someone to get it done. Either way, diplomacy and being kind doesn't get the job done, so maybe running up their phone bill might. And I would also suggest, regardless of what they send you, send it back, whether you want it or not. Hit em in the pocket, they may take notice... Some info you might find useful. I used this to contact a higher up in the NAFC. I did not receive a direct response from them but a indirect one I did get. It came in a very possitive way but still got nothing done in the long run. It did turn a few heads. Maybe if some more members contact MOTHER and speak in one voice we will be heard. Actually, if ANYONE sends you an item, addressed to you, which you did not request, you have no liability to them whether they send an invoice or not. That means you do not have to pay for it and you do not have to return it. I actually had a vitamin company send me a BIG mess of vitamins which I did not order, and they electronically deducted the amount from my checking account. When I found out about it, I went to my bank and complained that they allowed that to happen without my permission. The bank credited my account with the amount and recinded the electronic transfer. The vitamin company called me and I gave them a piece of my mind. They asked that I send the vitamins back collect. I told them no way. If they want the stuff back they can come out and pick them up, they're on the front porch. They picked them up. I could have just kept them and told them too bad, but I had no use for them and didn't want to lug them out to the garbage. Be Fishers of People.

You're a better man than me Lazarus ! Thats pretty ballsy to electronically draft your account without your knowledege much less permission ! I think they'd have to look through the local landfill for their vitamins if it were me ! Scott:

I am drafting a letter to the board of directors for the club. I will be making mention of all the gripes and complaints and various responses members have received from the club. So please, list your complaints, wants, and desires, not only for the website, but the club in general. Once I get the draft letter completed, I will find a way to post it so the members can give any further input. In addition, I will try to find a way to have members electronically sign it, whether that be starting a new post and listing the letter on the thread and have members merely just state Agreed on a reply or what have you. I will then attach the thread to the letter and mail it off. The time has come it seems to stand up and be counted. I would like to see the list of complaints with suggested fixes to the problem by October 10th, 2008. This way, I can summarize and prepare the draft so we can get this ball rolling. I have never heard this. Where did you get this info? Was it from the club? Do you feel the club is a rip-off because they won't give you something for free? If the club said this, then yes, it is very misleading. But if you heard it from somewhere else, then you're believing gossip. Show me where this info came from. Be Fishers of People.

Yes Laz, Big B is right. I do know they will reimburse you up to $25 for a fishin license. You need to get a form, provide a photo copy of the license and the receipt, and they send you the money. I have seen other posts on the forums that make specific mention of this, and I know one of the guys I fish with here has obtained a reimbursement for his license. There is also something in the FAQs about this as well. Any day on the water or in the woods is solitude itself. |

The refund of $25 is true. James had a thread someplace around here with all the info you need to get it done. I cannot find it. I have sent him a PM about it and will post link when he respondes. refund info all the info and more. |

Okay Theo, here is one for your list. Everytime you respond in a thread on this site it has to reload the whole thread. If the thread is 100 pages long, before you can reply you must reload all 100 pages. This is ridiculous, the longer a thread gets the harder it gets to post in it. The last 5-10 post is more than enough. I am sure this is likely a cause of the site in general running slow. Shared servers running several sites and hundreds to thousands of pages being reloaded for every post. This problem even stops me from posting in long threads, a new person here wouldn`t have a chance.

What do you suggest as a plausible solution? Would you suggest limiting the thread page length to say 10 posts per page? I think listing just the last 5 posts, something might get lost in the overall theme of the post. Perhaps they could list the Master Post, then perhaps the last 5 - 10 responses, under it, and list the posts going from last response to the first responses instead of the other way around. Your going to need to go with me so you can see what I`m talking about. In the" lures and baits" section there is a thread called "lure Collecting (2). Go there and click on it. Once your there go to the last post, page 9. Hit the reply button as though you wish to respond to the last post. If you get a reply window to open look under it. You will see that you are reloading the whole thread under the reply box. All 9 pages of it. Every avatar, every picture, every siggy. This is killing me on this site. I get 142 images uploading from that thread. On dial up that will take all day. If it just reloaded the last 10 post when you reply instead of all 9 pages we would not have to upload the early stuff from time gone by. This problem is only going to get worst as threads get longer. In the "mics" section the "Good Morning" thread I cannot even get a reply box open anymore. 26 pages it tries to reload, my screen turns blue and thats the end of that. If it just reloaded the last 10 post when you reply that would be more than enough.

I agree, Bob! Altho it's not an issue for me I can see a big problem with dial-up users, which makes up a majority of users I think...My understanding is that this type of operation uses up a lot of memory in the host server, all speed related issues. I have talked to many folks the construct / service web sites and they can not figure out why the club decided to use this particular software or site configuration. It is one of the worst on the market...I have been told this! LM since 2005 Bushwacker Deputy Sherif |

I see your point. This is a virtual memory hog. Should I bo so bold as to pose a possible solution and a probable concern in regards to this, until we get this sorted out with the letter that will be sent. First the layman's solution. When you find a post like that, open the original post, copy the original post, start a new threat titled "what ever - CONTINUED", on the initial post that starts the thread, paste the original post and Add a blurp saying this is the original post continued due to connectivity issues or what ever. It should solve some of the problems temporarily. My concern with having them redo the software solution for the bbs is exactly what has happened in the past, whereas, you loose all the previous posts and what have you. Not to mention, as some have pointed out, they were unable to log in with their old usernames and such. I would certainly like to see them use better software, as most forums boards utilize better bbs software than the club does. I will add it to the letter and address it. Glad we are all on the same page on that one. Thats a big problem for me and likely anyone with dial up. If we start splitting threads up parts will get lost. With the search feature not working (another complaint) it`s near imposible to find anything the way it is, yet alone start splitting threads. Some threads have good and important info in the early post. Others like the good morning thread have little importance in the early post except sentimental value. I.E. The good morning thread was one of the first threads on this site, it was started by Charlie Hall, Charlie was a friend who passed on this Jan. I kinda like seeing his thread there on the top every morning. I won`t replace it. As to the software, I don`t know much about it. What I do know is it don`t take a year to fix this stuff. Either they are not trying very hard to make this site user friendly or they are incapable of resolving these issues. In the forum feed back section version3, these things that are mentioned are common on any BB. They should have been set up before this site opened and here we are a year later.......if the problem is there lack of attention to this site I hope enough of us sound in here to turn a few heads and get something done. If the problem is they are incapable of resolving these issues, get someone in here who can or start over with something different. The condition of this site currently does not bring anything good to the NAFC. Something new that works would be better for the members and the NAFC then continueing as it is. IMO.

Agreed. I have a few complaints myself. I ordered the sunglasses 2 weeks ago, and they arrived. No complaint there, however, I became a member in August, NO MAG, NO MEMBER GIFTS, NO DIRECTORY. What's even more irritating, I joined NAHC when I ordered the sunglasses. In the mail yesterday, there was the Hunting Mag. Seems awful funny to me, that if they can send a mag from a branch club, and merchandise you bought from that joke of a member store, then why not get your membership merchandise, and the club welcome packet. They will be getting a phone call on Monday. My patience is wearing pretty thin at this stage. I also understand, the freebie stuff is just icing and the benefit from membership is supposed to be the mag and the use of this website. But a "promise" when money is exchanged is called a contract. They are in breech. It's that simple. Any day on the water or in the woods is solitude itself. |
