Well we finally Had some nice weather and I had a day off , So I went fishin' at a local spot. I was Honestly after white bass , hybrids , and large mouth bass. Well one of my first fish Was A common Carp caught Weirdly enough on a Mister twister 4" twin taill grub while jiggin'! I have never caught a carp on a grub or any other soft plastic lure before. Below is a pic , and I ask , whats the weirdest thing that you have caught a carp on?

That was way back in August 1964 in Wisconsin Fox River.

I have caught three grass carp on a 3" orange jointed rapala minnow. All from one of my favorite public lakes. They ranged frpom 8 to 12 pounds. The property manager was amazed, and honestly, so was I. Pat |

I caught a carp while burning a Rattle Trap for bass. It was suspended in open water adjacent to some trees. The very next cast, to the same spot using the same lure, landed me a 17 inch largemouth. The carp was only 15 inches but fought much harder than that bass or the other 18 inch largeemouth I landed the same day. I can imagine how fun it would be to catch one of the many 30 inch plus carp I've seen skimming the surface many times.

I've caught several on crankbaits and jig & pigs. All in lakes with no weed or grass beds. Also caught a huge snapping turtle on a slow rolled chatterbait. LOL

I caught a carp trolling a 3" black mister twister in the summer, and ice fishing I caught one on an ice jig tipped with maggots.

When I was a kid my brother and I saw an article in the Boys Life magazine about how to make a lure out of a clothes pin. He made one and caught a 14" carp on it. Gary |

As I said in my post " Carp on tube jigs". I seem to catch them on 1/16 and 1/8 oz tube jigs and other small jigs. I just toss it out in front of cruising carp and see who bites. Good fun on a slow day. (it don't matter if the horse is blind.Just load the cart anyway!... John Madden Hall of Fame Coach)

I wander how well there sense of smell is? Years ago we ran out of bait and had gummy worms we were eating so I put one on and hooked up right away. I wander if it smelled the sugar? If they take ciggarette butts, I wander if they are attracted to tobaccoo scent. Hum, we might have to do some experimenting? Someone got rich off of coffee flavored tube jigs. |
