I like to use floating baits for carp. Personally I've never had much luck fishing on the bottom.

    Wow really?

I have only used floats a few times and had next to no luck. All of my catches have came from the bottom. I have read on the European Rough fish forums a lot of anglers use them.

for the most part when i fish for Wild water carp i bait heavy and fish over top of it , Now last year I tried imitation baits and fished them on a hair rig over my baited areas as well when i fish paylakes with flake or pack baits.  You can Google Enterprise baits on the WWW or Check out Resistance Tackle ( http://www.resistancetackle.com )to see a whole slew of them.

As for slip floats or BOBBERS I have not had to much luck with them carpin' JMHO and I never claimed to be a pro or even good , Just someone who fishes for them.

It could just be the creek I fish. During early afternoon you can see at least 10 a day holding just below the water line. Throw something that floats, and they grab it. This creek is the only place I fish for carp, so that may explain it.

I worked at a bar on a lake, and people would throw french fries in the water

to watch the Carp come to the surfice and eat them, it really was funny, saw

some huge ones,(must have been well feed).

here's an idea Myfriend , Have you ever given thought of Floatin' bread? When i make my bread punches , there's always the outside crust left so I use it to feed the ducks and what not and I also see some carp "Top water" feeding on it.

Give this a try and let me know if it works out for ya.

Take a slice of bread , peel out the center and lightly squeeze some onto your hook , Be sure NOT to smash it tightly , leave it just so the bread can be sucked off. then remove your lead sinker and cast just using the weight of the bread , this is called free lining.  When the carp are at the shy bite stage i try this and it usually works for me.

Please Remember I never claim to be a pro or the best i just fish for carp ALOT.

Now days I bottom fish in the neighborhood of some corn chum, but years ago I lived in northeast NE and would fish below a dam on a small river.  We would take moss of the concrete walls and rocks wind it on a small hook and fish it below a bobber.  It was deadly.  I think it worked well there because there was little else to eat.

Float bites are very random, all of my carp would come from the bottom. I usually use the corn or dough with a good sinker.

Carp use there sense of smell most of the time.Unless you are fishing suspended schools of carp ten feet down in 20 feet of water bait hugging the bottom is more natural to the carps feeding tendancy's.
    Try it all!
