alot of fun carp are. as a kid there was one deep hole w/steep bank. in 50's we used 50#black braid and the carp would c us take off 4 center of river twist body in current and ping the line (break off) like the #test was 2#.

i never aimed to catch them, everyone bad mouths them so bad and all i didnt even try, but after catching one while bobber fishing some bluegill with meal worms i caught one and the fight got me it was only around 4 pounds but wow what a fight, then after aiming to catch and actually getting a few more on later trips i was out crappy fishing with a freind slow retreiving 1.5 inch chartrues"sp?" grub when i hooked into one the size of the one in the pic,, faught him for a good 30 minutes on 4 lb line, had 3 boats from the bass tournament that was goin on all hanging out to see the fish, didnt weigh it but yeah it was a big sucker. nothing else biting i have no hesitation about throwing on some carp bait or corn and goin for it

The carp with the bigger and ussually fewer scales are called mirror carp and are a gentic variation of the common carp. There is also a rare variation called a leather carp that is scaleless.

Last Friday I was panfishing with my 11 ft crappie rod and using 4 lb test with a size 12 ice jig. Flipped by a dock and hooked onto a submarine. A half hour later with the help from a guy in another boat who had a bigger net than me I landed a 31 inch 17 lb porkchop of a Carp. This thing did not miss any meals . He was a brute and strong. I will remember this fight for a long time.
