I'm fixing up an old Jon Boat and hope to have it floating in the spring. I'll post some pics soon. Maybe someone did something different with theirs, I'd like to see to give me ideas.

i'd say this could be a "small craft" fishing thread....canoes, kayaks, belly boats, personal pontoon boats, inflatables.....if it is a little cramped with more than one person fishing in it....this is your forum....besides we need our own so we don't make all the guys with the $30,000 rigs cry because we catch more and better fish than they do

I'm impressed that the club recognized that kayak fishing plays a part in their club members activities. The kayak industry took its time recognizing that anglers modified their products to fish from and they found a new gold mine to tap into. I use canoes and sit-on-top kayaks to get into untapped areas, small rivers and smaller lakes. Search the web and you will find a wealth of information and products to help the kayak angler in his quest for unpressured fish. In a couple of weeks I will be attending the premier canoe and kayak show "Canoecopiea" in Madison, Wisconsin where there will be seminars and demonstrations on kayak fishing. If you would like to know more or would like me to look for something for you at the show, post it here and I will try to share what I find at the show. Bob |

Well said Stillfishin. No offense to my boatin friends, but there is some kind of satisfaction getting into areas that even a jon boat can't access. I think some of those areas have no fishing pressure, so fish there are primed to strike.

If you want to enjoy canoe and kayak fishing at its finest, you might consider a trip to the boundary waters canoe wilderness area in northern Minnesota or, my preference, in the Quetico Provincial Park just across the border in Canada. No motors, no jon boats, no mechanical devices. Just you, your crew and nature. All travel among the thousands of lakes and streams is by canoe or kayak and foot. It is true wilderness with all its inconveniences but amazing fishing. 4 pound small mouth are common with 20+ inchers, 5-7 pounders are not unusual. The walleye fishing is great and the northerns just can't wait to bite your line. This year is my 9th year running, and I am looking forward to it. |

Here in Kansas, useing a canoe or kayak, or any other water transport in the rivers is virtually immpossible. Only the Kansas and Arkansas have been declared navigable by the legislature. That means when any other stream flows through owned land, the water is also owned, so you are tresspassing. On a navigable stream the flow up to the high water mark is suppose to be public property. Recently, the Sedgwick county Board tied to start a program establishing put ins on the Big Arkansas on county owned land. The land owners along the river raised such a fuss they shelved the project. Even though the access sites and the river and it's banks are public property. They claimed they feared crime and vandalism, but people like that, in my experience don't like the outdoors. Be that as it may, are there any notional orginizations that can help this situation? Please post suggestions on the thread. thank you. Life Member since 1996, Greenlantern |

hey greenlantern.....you may want to put this up in a few other threads......this is a pretty limited forum so far......i also am not even sure in what direction to tell you to go, it seems like a state matter, i'm not sure if any federal agencey can help out with that.......but like i said put that up a few other forums, there is bound to be a few people that might know what to do

. . so to be PC in here means no motor for the boat but a cramp boat is welcome with no motor? it sounds like you know best and have all the angles figured out so let us know how your topic should run(NOT)! like i said don't git a big head you are not the first to ask for a small boat thread, the club slapped alot of people in the face for putting your name there as the "one" who thought it up? BS maybe i'll ask to do away with it as it discriminates and ~ 'a boat is a boat no matter how small'(Dr.Seuss rules)so the original boat thread can fit any boat big or small, but your ego is kinda like a $30,000 boat owners, witch doesn't fit to well with me,... every one is welcome to me, but you already have a line drawn, hmmm do you need to be a certain color boat too? or a certain color boat owner? the more lines you draw the harder it gets, kayaks come with motors sold on them , but your way says they don't belong in here, some canoes are made for mounting motors and have been for over 20 some years! it is a canoe and it is a kayak but thanx to your way they don't belong! . what else doesn't belong? the porta boat, why not just tell gillkiller, that if he has a motor mounted he won't be welcome here! i sure don't feel welcome, maybe next time ask for a manule powerd boat thread or non moterized boat thread! then i'll know not to jump in with so much info to share for everyone about something i love! thanx editors!

Life Member since 1996, Greenlantern hey lantern , we have the right to flow threw peoples property /water and up till the high water mark too, but man if a farmer tells us to leave or a property owner we leave, we don't carry guns so no point in arguin with any one! but it sounds like a bs law, the water is owned by no one here, you can have water rights to beable to pump water out of a river but to own the water? man thats crazy.... shotguns rule! don't argue be polite, and keep movin`, yes sir sorry sir... LOL if we camp on the river we pack some heat, normaly a 22rifle and a 45hand gun but more for targets in the eve`n, but you just never know what could go down out there, could run into POT harvesters or meth cookers.... who knows... that law might save you from ever finding any of those things so it could be good... and i always wonder why we drift past a nice million dollar home how crappy the view would be with so much water traffic, some places have alot of traffic, and it would suck to find that out after buying a place with river front property..... we fish right up on the structure of the houses , like the pump area steps in the water, it would piss me off with someone that close to my house.... but no one says nothing as of yet to us anyway.... |
