deleware kayaking?

    I just got into serious kayak fishing about a year ago and decided its time to hit the river.  I live in bucks so the deleware is about 20-30 mins away.  Anyone have an idea of a hot area sutible for a kayak? thanks

    hey mkb........the area near washingtons crossing is where i cut my teeth smallmouth fishing........that area is great.....some of the area is shallow enough to wade if you get tired of sitting.......a lot of current in some places so the water stays nicely oxygenated even when it really warms up in the summer.......and another great part is that in the spring you will see some shad and stripers up that way as well........but all through the year you should be able to find large and smallmouth, walleye, musky, cats and a lot of panfish (and if worse comes to worse stop fishing the river and try the canal for troutin the spring).......i visit my family up there whenever i can and always make sure to do a trip up there with my dad......my favirite bait for the smallies is a 3in berkley power craw in pumpkin/chart or pumpkin/flo orange......it has never failed me.....good luck

    Thanks for the info and tips oldguardangler.  Will delenitly put to use and will be sure to give some feedback. Not to many people are willing to give up there hot spots and share fish catching info.  Thants why i love being a member!

    well i won't be back in the area for another two years so figure someone should head up there and fish it for me..........but if there aren't any left when i get back.....i know who tookum.........have fun......if i get up there while i'm on leave i'll let you know.....i'm love to catch those deleware smallies again.....the potomac one are a little wussyish....lol

    The fish will definetly not be going anywhere, I strickly practice C&R. I fell fish are way to valuble natural resource to take advantage of.  Be sure to drop a line if on leave always looking for new water and people to fish.

    btw, catch and release is great, i usually do......but if you catch any stripers (which are heading up the delaware now) i might suggest keeping one.....they are delicious.....in the spring it is all i fish for and i will keep one or two from May 1 (seson opens) until they leave the river in mid june......i look at it this way.......take one or two myself.....or help out the comercial fishermen that damn near decimated the striper population in the first place back in the 70's and 80's........just a thought........but like i said with the exception of a few fish all year, like maybe a few walleye, perch, trout or stripers, i catch and release anytime i'm on the water....talk to you later

    I agree w/ that completly. But im not that much of a freshwater fish eater.  I have been know to keep a walleye for my wife.  Stripers however. most of mine come out of Noc.  And i just cant seem to take one home.  ALOT of anglers take advantage of the early sring blitz and take the limt. There a big braggin rights  @ local bait shop.  For landlocked stripers And most of the non hybrid +30inchers are surly kept.  I think i do it most so my son might be able to experince the same thing when old enough to fish.  Cant wait for stripers on the new kayak, nothing like fighting fish strong enough to move your Craft!
