looking to buy a fishing kayak and would like some input. im 6'1' tall and 300 lbs. i can spend up tpo 850.00 but that is all i can squeeze out right now. will be fishing an enclosed slough, several medium size private lakes and wadeable ozark streams. bass and panfish are the main targeted species. i have a portable depth finfder with a suction cup transducer that works well on metal jon boats i have rented at various lakes. it also has its own case so if the transducer will stick to the hull i can use it just about anywhere. any and all advice would be appreciated. thanks

hey duckman , i bought both of mine for about $800 each and could not be happier . we have a 14' redfish and a 14'7" mantaray , both are very stable . we have 5rod holders on one and 6 on the other . both have pole lights and fish finders . we use them on the river , lake , and bays . for ponds and streams , a 12' of either one would probably do . my brother in law is a little taller than you , and with the adjustable foot pads , he has a comfortable ride . and that's after 8 hours on the bay . you can drop the trolly ancher to stop an fish , turn sideways and hang your legs over the side ( without flipping) here's a web site that might help . www.LakelineWatersports.com  it's a friend of mine . he sales and ships all over . you will be able to look at his inventory and prices . that's where we found our redfish and mantaray . i hope you make the adventure and hope this helps a little .

Duckman, if you want a "one man" yak....

I went with a Old Town 12xt Angler, bought at Bass Pro, if you want somethig that is under 700 bucks.  Nice yak and very stable.  This is not a sit on top kayak which i didnt want for my first one.  Go to kayakfishinggear.com , her name is Karen and she has all kinds of stuff you can add to your rig.  She's so nice and super to work with.  Tell her that David from Germantown, TN passed her name to you.  She has a "johnny bar" and a "liberator" for your fish finder that will work great if you go with the yak i am efering to you.

Also, Bass pro, if your a member will have a 10% off coupon every now and then, and you can get this boat for about 600 bucks.  Best money you will ever spend.  I have two of them, easy to transport and great to fish from.

You can also add another rod holder to the Johnny bar (go with ram), Karen will help you.......

Any questions, let me know and i will answer back.......

    have fun!

Don't settle for an Okay yak, try many before you buy.

These are my yaks, and I love them.

I bought four different kayaks prior to finding the wavewalk yak.

I had a featherlite anglar, a Native Ulitamate 12, tarpon 13, and a ocean kayak, thats alot of $$ out the window!!!!!!!

WaveWalk kayaks, model W300 (2) I camo painted the yellow one myself!

    and the W500 2009 model .

One of my W300s, I put a hands free steering  (I steer with my feet) trolling motor 30# minn-kota with digatal maximizer controls up front on my tackle box for easy speed control at the touch of a dail.

I'm going to set up one more like this, so friends and family can join in on the fun!

Walk in and out when you launch, no more back pain or leg pains.

Sight fishing, casting , paddling, all while standing.

It's a Lean Mean fishing Machine!!!

I went to the Wave Walk site a while back and while they are probobly a little more than you were thinking of, check their videos, what people do with these things is impressive.

Yep, you'll see me on there and the different rigging I've done.

Some of the folks have made some very cool set ups with these bad boys.

There is a lot of salt fishermen in Fl who have bought them.

They are Worth every penny. The W500 is the best update yet.

The W300 is also nice, but I really love this 2009 model the best.

They handle chop fine, I've takin Some Huge Wakes with no Problem at all!

Going to hit the salt water next week, for the first time ever in a Yak, so stand by!

Duckman, read your post and i find it,that the size that you are, i think a cobra fish and dive kayak would be go for you! I'm from hawaii the Big Island and we do alot of kayaking fishing here, but its all ocean! and its very stable. You can check out there web site Cobra Kayak.com

On our kayak we catch Ahi,Ono Mahimahi and some time sail fish so that tells you that you need a stable kayak! Anyways talk you soon!

Here is an update on my newest Wave walk yak, the W500.

I am making a proto type out of wood for the console.

I may change it to a diamond plate later.

I want it to be removeable, so when I don't want to use the trolling

motor I can remove the power head.

Again, this will be a foot controled steering, leaving my hands free

    to batlle my fish.

I have a Cobra Fish 'N' Dive too, and it's terrific. I'm 6'4" and 330 lbs. and it'll hold me and a lot of gear, too. It's a hell of a fishing platform -- very stable, so much so that you can stand up in it to fish. At least I do on lakes when it's reasonably calm. Good luck!

Jesse, I can sure relate to that, I tried one of the Hobies with the foot paddle setup, worked great, I even put it sideways to the dock using the rudder control but I did feel it in my knees and I had trouble getting out of it. If I get the chance, I am going to try a Wavewalk...check out their website. Allen
