I was going down the road the other day and saw a canoe beside the road. I stopped walked up to the house and ask if they were throwing it out and they were. They said that they were moving out of state and couldn't take it with them and I could have it, if I wanted it.

The canoe is a Crow 2-man Canoe with none of the goodies (seats, trolling motor, drive system). It's made of black ABS plastic. I'm thinking about painting the bottom of the canoe white. My question is, If I paint it with marine paint, do I need to prime it first? If so, what type of primer should I use?

    Hey Ben,

I am not sure if it will work but if you go to Home Depot or Lowes you can get spray paint made just for plastic furniture. I used it on some lawn chairs once and they are still looking good. Give it a try

I got it primed today. I'm only doing the bottom, up to the waterline, white. Later on, I may put a 2" red line above that, leaving the top and inside black. It took 5 cans of primer to paint it so far. It will take 10 cans of white, 1 can of red, and about a gallon of polyuerthane to finish. Hopefully, I can get a coat of white on it this weekend.

I took a picture of it on a disposable camera (my daughter broke our digital camera) and will post a pic once I get them developed and put on a CD. Possibly done the weekend as well.
