looking for an affordable($150 or less) swimbait rod that can match an Abu Garcia Ambassedeur 5600 EXT-PRO round reel. The reel is not very large, but is tough and well built. I like small to medium-large swimbaits. Thanks for the help guys.

WTG Ray----Very neat and very simple! Kinda looks like the club admin can't please everyone no matter what they try to do! PETE--I understand what you are saying, but we complained that they were not doing anything to help us on the B/B. But now that they give us something that some members asked for we complain. So what if we have 2 seperate threads?? Lures and Baits and the other can be for end tackle and accessories and rods and reels like Lazarus posted! Don't get me wrong Pete as you know I respect your opinions immensley and I usually agree! But with this I think we could cut the admin people some slack. ----Bill J.

Yanosick: I'd check out Acadia rods, ( www.AcadiaSports.com )good price for a good rod I have some and they are as good or better than my high priced rods.

I wasn't complaining, Bill.  I was just wondering why an identical thread, that's all.  This is a good idea having a rod & reel forum.  If I am remembering correctly, there was such a forum in the old site...

 

As many of you know I am on the hunt for a dedicated musky rod & reel.  So far it looks like the Shimano "Corvalus" CVL 400 is the reel of choice.  The rod I have chosen is the Shimano "Sojourn", 17 - 40 lb. heavy action.  Can anyone give me some feedback on either of these?

Yanosick: I have a Sojourn spinning rod and really like it. I'm figuring you are talking a casting rod. Funny to see Acadia mentioned in the same thread, last time I went out I took my Sojourn and my Acadia, also spinning. The P series Acadia rods that I love have been discontinued, I do have two of their F series rods that I enjoy, but not as much as the Shimano. My all time favorite is my Cabelas XMLti. Pricey but a joy to fish with. Tom

I actually have Acadia Sports equiptment ( 2 spinning rods, 1 casting, spinning reel, and Baitcaster), and I really like it, but the rods aren't able to handle larger lures. I like the cabelas XML-ti but it's a little pricey

 

Does Okuma have a suitable rod that will match my reel(Abu Garcia Ambassedeur 5600 EXT-PRO ). Here's a picture of the reel. Thanks for the help, but I'm still searching.

I have a question regarding spinning reels vs. baitcasting reels.  I have several spinning reels and a couple baitcasters, and I like using both, but I'm not sure I see a definate advantage of one over the other.  I see the pro's using baitcasters a lot and I've read several posts recommending them, but are they really better than spinning reels?  How so?
On a clear night, I can hear the fish laughing.

The Bass pros like the baitcasters for throwing into weeds and slop. I fish more for panfish, walleye and northern pike. While I do own 2 baitcasters, the bulk of my fishing is done with spinning tackle. If you are going to be fishing heavy lures and/or fishing heavy weedbeds, perhaps a baitcaster would be best but for allaround fishing, I prefer a spinning rig, I can cast further! Tom

I've read that in the posts before.  Using baitcasters in heavy weeds and such.  I guess I don't quite follow the specifics of that.  What makes the BC better suited for that?

I just recently purchased and built a rod combo first time building one and i need some advice. The combo is a pfleuger trion 4735 reel and a 7' light/medium ugly stick. As im using it more im finding the pole is a little heavy and limits versatility. What rod do you guys suggest and yes im a soon to be poor college student so i do have a budget. Please inform me any help would be wonderful. Thank you

I am looking for a medium reel that works with 10 pound test that won't break the bank-under 40 dollars. I broke the reel on my shakespeare uglystick rod and am looking at a nicer reel for my lucky rod any ideas

Spinning, baitcaster or spincaster? For a decent spinning reel, Cabela's Fish Eagle series is reliable and under $40, in fact you could get 2 for that money. It's a decent reel and comes with a spare spool. Both my wife and son fish with them and are quite satisfied. I have yet to find a baitcaster I like for less than about $70, and a spincaster in your price range should be no problem. Tom
