Ok, I don't want a fight, I just want everyone's opinions of the different line types.  I would like to know what are the best lines for the differnet types of fishing, cats, bass (soft, crank, top water, spinners, ect ect), bobber fishing for brim.
All I'm using right now is mono, 4lb to 20lb.  I don't have any real favorites, but I really like big game on my cat rods.  I used to use alot of spiderwire, but the stealth would dig into line on the spool and cause casting problems, I've heard alot of bad about power pro.  So let me have it... Thanks James

I would say search some of the other threads as this subject has come up before. Braids, many people say use it over a backing of heavy mono so that you only use about 100 yds of the braid. This is if your reels hold more. Some of the threads may have some good links as this subject has been in magazines several times over the years. Other than that, use what works for you.

Since you fish with mono very often, I would try Berkley Max fishing line. Its the smoothest, strongest, furthest casting monofilament line I've ever used. Give it a try.

Yano: Thanks for the info on the Berkely Max. At the end of this season, all of my monois due for replacement, and I will be switching some of my fluoro spools to mono. I have always liked Trilene XL, but have heard that Max is close to XL in castability, but near XT in abrasion resistance. I'll try it on one spool this year and if it works I'll spool up the rest of them over the winter. Tom

I have two reels with 20lb spiderwire and one with 40lb have had no casting problems when I put it on the spool I tie a clove hitch and have had 0 problems. The one spool has had the 20lb spiderwire on it for 10 years. Currently I'm testing two rods set up with 30lb canjun red for northern's and musky, but have not formed an opinion one way or another. I have an ultralite set up with vanish flourocarbon and like it alot.

Yano: If you are a fan of the Max, act fast. I heard a rumor that Berkely is discontinuing it. It is currently available at FishingOverstock.com at a real bargain. Apparently it is a casualty of high price in a depressed economy. Tom

Thats horrible to hear Tom. I really like that line. There is no other line on the market like it. I'm gonna have to get four or five spools before they discontinue it. Thanks for the heads up.

If I'm using mono is always trilene xl.  I've tried Max and thinks its trash. but regardless of what kind of line its almost always got a fluoro leader

I also tried the Trilene Maxx, now I know why it is discontinued. This stuff was recomended to me but I was really disappointed with it, it is stiff, with loads of memory and is hard to tie. Thankfully, I bought the stuff on a close out, so I'm only out a couple bucks. Tom

I'm honestly shocked that Your Trilene Max performed so badly.

I have fished it in the 8lb on my spinning reel and used it for bluegill fishing and finesse fishing for bass. I had used it twice a year, for three years(now the tradition can't go on since its discontinued) and have never once had a problem.

The largest fish I caught with the line was a six pound bass caught on a small Berkley frenzy crankbait. That fish took me around stumps and brush. That line handled perfectly. It didn't even fray.

I truly think you got defective line.

Some lines perform very well on warm waters of temps 75 degrees or higher and need a good soak. When these conditions aren't met, the lines are just mediocre in performance or worse than what one is accustomed to. An example is Yozuri Hybrid. It's mediocre in the spring and fall. During summertime it performs well, but during the dog days, it's at it's best performance. Early spring or late fall, it's not recommened. Winter ice fishing, it's a unsuitable.
