I notice on my salmon trip that when I was fighting a fish my reel would twist where it sets in the reel seat.Has anyone ever had them break?

If noone ever had one break I'll feel better about it but it's really scary when your fighting a fish and you feel the reel twisting on the rod

I know Graphite is strong but HOW strong?

Everything has a breaking point whether due to fatigue or just poor construction.I've seen a winch on a machine bend a 2" plate of High carbon steel like it was nothing the only thing that stopped it was the drive shaft snapped off the transmission.

Yes They will break. I use electrical tape on them.

Well, Salmon are pretty strong fish. I have a Quantum Incyte, and it too has a graphite body, but I use it for bass fishing and Bluegill fishing. Now I've never Had a problem, but I don't fish for Salmon.

You might want to upgrade to Aluminum!

That's probably what I'm gonna do.I think they use graphite just to cut weight but when salmon run over 20lbs. you wouldn't notice if your reel weighs a few ounces more.

Yes the reels will flex or twist under torsion. Like a car going around a cones at high speed slalom, the entire vehicle will flex or twist under those pressure. An aluminum reel will perform better than a graphite reel.
