Bill: I saw a kid using one of those last fall. If memory serves, there is a spring that launches a special bobber off the end of the rod. Almost sounds like an "as seen on TV" kind of thing. Maybe Kmart or Wal-Mart when we get closer to spring? I'll keep an eye open. Tom Fishin' fool in NE Illinois |

If it is the product I am thinking of, it was made by FOGO and was called the Rocket Fishing Rod. You might try amazon.

Frwhlr38---Hi Bill>> Yanosick said he saw one at Gander Mtn. So if they have them there they would also have them at other stores! Check out the GM website. You might get lucky! Good luck Bill J/ fishnhunt

Don't waste your money. My nephew had one and it was a piece of junk. The hook and split-shot go inside the bobber. Which if the weight is more than an inch from the hook, you must do manually every cast. Once fired, the bobber is supposed to open, dropping the hook and weight. It will, on very rare occasions. When it came time to teach my daughters (now7 and 5), I went to Walmart and got them one of those 2'6" kids poles (Barbie, of course). It took a few trips before they could cast it proficiently. They each now have 6' Zebco spincast combos and out fish me on occasion, esspecially the youngest. Ben Bryant

If you are still looking, I found a couple links for you. http://www.amazon.com/FOGO-Generati...B001PO5KQO http://officialseenontvstore.com/p/rocket-fishing-rod-ii?gclid=COLtpLnj1J8CFQgNDQodMmQRdA http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=3432529 http://www.walmart.com/ip/Rocket-Fishing-Rod/5245356 Your best bet would be Amazon or Walmart. They seem to be the cheapest ones. Lifer since 05/08....Ky....Fred |

Fred: Last I heard, frwhlr was a bit upset with BPS. I think it's better to get a young one used to casting even if it takes a while. I'm thinking about an underspin for my grandson this spring, he'll be 4 1/2 by the time the lake thaws. From there it's a short jump to real spinning gear. Tom Fishin' fool in NE Illinois |

I'm not a big fan of these rods. My 2 girls(soon to be 3 &5) both have the kids spincasting combos. One is Barbie and the other is Dora. My oldest learned to cast her own line with it last summer. The best thing about these poles is that they float. Plus, they dont cost much more than $10. Lifer since 05/08....Ky....Fred |

Dave, that video is great! I'm surprised that pole could handle a fish that size. Lifer since 05/08....Ky....Fred |

I think I would rather start a kid on an underspin rig, but that is me. Lets the beginner switch over to spinning gear much more simply and it is really fairly easy for beginners to learn on. Tom Fishin' fool in NE Illinois |

Gotta agree, I started with the closed face and worked my way up to the spinning gear. If I remember I started with a zebco 33? Not sure if thats right, it's been so long, but it was easy to use with little practice at age 4. LM 99' SE PA |

I've gotta agree with scotteph . Get either a Zebco 22 or a 33 ( I think the 22 is better). They aren't expensive and have no problem pulling up bull gills and medium size bass. |
