I was thinking of getting an underspin reel for my 9' whuppin' stick crappie rod. What I was looking at was the Zebco Bill Dance Crappie Triggerspin Reel or the Abu Garcia 276Ui. Has anyone used an underspin reel? If so what should I be looking for? the Zebco is about $22 and the Abu Garcia is $35.neither of them are expensive I just don't want to end up with a Crappy Crappie setup . Sam: Personal oppinion is that the Abu or the Pflueger might be your best choice. I looked at a bunch of underspins to keep as loaners and most of the cheap ones had quality issues, even the Diawa I looked at. I'd rather spend $25-35 once than buy a piece of crap and have to do it all over again. You just know that cheap reel is going to break with the fish of the year (if not a lifetime) on the line! Sam: While there look at the Pflueger, it's a bit less money than the Abu, make sure you're getting the best reel for the money. Tom Lifer in NE Illinois |

Definitely,It's easier to hold them in your hand and compare them then look at a picture on the screen and reading someone else's review. As my Gram would say Paper will lay still for anything same with a computer screen I guess.I talked to a Guy at Gander Mtn. But he had trouble trying to help me find a reel for a Cabela's rod,He tried selling me a different rod. Since we were planning on a trip to Cabela's anyway I figured I'll find one there. Sam: I'm betting that after doing the homework you buy one of the better reels. I deal with folks trying to fish with inferior tackle often, I won't buy junk. Tom Lifer in NE Illinois |

I have had really good luck with the Pflueger 1806 (think that is the model) and it's like $15 or so on sale. I think the Abu might be a bit better but not better enough to pay the extra $ for as the pflueger has worked flawlessly |

I ended up gettin an Abu Garcia Cardinal 302i spinning reel instead of the underspin,The underspin reels were too light for a 9' rod, with the 302i it balances the rod very nice. Sam, Lycoming County North Central PA NAFC Life Member ,Angler Legacy Ambassador |
