Anything, Bowfin (dogfish) are very aggressive and will go after nearly any lure or live bait that you drag in front of them.  If you plan on catching them, make sure you don't mind losing lures (if you go that route) they will latch on and don't like to let go.  Many people up here just cut the line and call it a loss.

No. They are bony and oily. I'm told they taste like mud.

In louisiana they are called choupique( pronounced as shoo pick). I've tried eating them before fried a long time ago,and did not like the muddy taste and mushy texture. But a lot of people around the state love them. Now they do however make an excellent fish ball or cake if you know anyone that has a good fishcake recipe.

In Florida we call them Mudfish.
They live in it and taste like it.

I've never bothered to look inside of their mouths...blue tounges huh?  All the one's I've caught have always been pretty much lock jawed.

Pretty much all bass lures will work for Bowfin. Might want to use a wire leader or something to prevent those teeth from snipping your line!

The majority of Bowfin, AKA Mudfish I have caught, have been on 7" shad colored Culprit worms, with a 16th ounce bullet weight. The largest I have landed was approximately 5 Lbs.

I usually just catch them while bass fishing. No idea how to specifically catch them only. They always pull like a trophy lunker bass to me.
