you can catch those every night right beside my boat, all you have to do is put some cut bait on a hook and put it close to the top maybe move it around a little bit, it wont let me put any pictures on they are too big

Visit www.fishbase.com. Then type in "longnose gar" in the search engine. The facts and stuff about the species should turn up.

There is an Alligator Gar in Amon Carter Lake here in Bowie, Texas that is as long as my ot sport canoe (14'). I ran right over him on a catfishing trip. He looks like a log at first glance. I hit him with my oars Cause he nearly turned my over. The only way to get him would be with a bow. The easiest way to get Gars is to bow fish them. I would suggest from a pontoon or flat raft for your first time.

The rope lure is the best way to catch them with a rod. Whip tie a 4" piece of 1/4" white nylon rope to a 1/0 hook, Varnish finished thread tie. Fray the rope. Fish on or near surface with a spinning rig. The rope tangles in the gar's teeth and they can't throw the lure. The hook is not needed for gar, but you may get bit by bass or crappie, then you'll want that hook.     Happy fishing.

I usually catch them while fishing for bass! Real pain in the neck sometimes! Only really fun to fish for them where they grow to large sizes.
    TIGHT LINES!!!
