I have to replace or put new butt caps on many fishing rods every year. Size, color, and thickness all have to be factored in. Black usuall wins 90% of the time. 3/4 in. up to 1/1/4 in. are used the most.

One of the best sources I have found are the replacement plastic caps // sometimes thin walled rubber // for the bottom of Chair legs. I can buy them in Home Depot or other Hardware places, on a card or sometimes by the single piece out of a small bin. Big Grin<!--graemlin::D-->

Usually they come in several colors and sizes,..1/2 in. up to 2 in. Average price comes out at about 38 cents ea. Cool<!--graemlin::cool:-->

For those wanting a real heavy duty butt cap, go to the local Drug Store and check the section where they sell the Walking Canes and Hand held Walkers.
Usually nearby on a display rack is the bottom replacement caps on cards for these. [ 1 to 4 of them] These caps are heavy duty rubber and Usually range from 3/4 in. up to 2/1/2 in. Mostly the color of these is a faded like Yellow. But other colors do exist.
Prices can range from $1.75 up to around $2.99 a card. Wink<!--graemlin:;)-->
