Just in case you were wondering where this thread was going, I am still waiting for the Stamina web site to finish their up grade so that I can order my parts.  I know that they are not the only site that sells these parts but they offer free shipping with a $100 order...

Mornin Pete, The new site is up and runnin now. I got my order in on Wednesday. The free shippin deal no longer applies and some prices have went up.  Still it,s the best bet I have found, jannsnet and cabelas have a decent selection but price/shippin is more. The new link:

Thanks for the heads up, Larry!  Last night you could not order nor where there very many items shown.  It was a little better but not quite finished this morning when I made my initial post.  It seems to ok now.  I am sorry I waited..The only reason I was ordering from them was because of the free shipping!  Oh well, I'll order this evening.

Yep, I really wanted that free shippin deal too. They,re probly still gettin bugs out of the new site, I couldnt "check out" Tuesday. Shippin shouldnt be too bad on you cause youre a lot closer to em than I am. Man I,ll be happy to spread the stuff out on the bench, that,ll help get all these possible combos out of my brain.

Pete, i am following this thread with GREAT interest! As i sit @ home nursing my broken leg, i am studying how to make different lures (bass & walleye). Cash is a bit of a problem for a short stint as i am not working. I like the idea of supplies recycled from at hand surplus! A tea spoon, or 30-30 rifle case can be used as a "spoon". I like the idea of using bike spokes for wire. I can see the the spoke nut used as the spinner body on smaller dia. wire. I wonder if piano wire would work? Always thought aluminum, cooper, brass tubing could be used. I have set aside red plastic straws, red plastic coffee stir sticks to slip on over the wire....I am willing to experiment with everyday surplus as i don't often have a $100 to spend on fishing supplies...though i have at times done so. Rather then spend $150 plus shipping on a wire bender, i would buy a small amount of pre-bent wire or build my own wire bender!!  Keep up the good work bro..many will benifit from it!! I have .22 cal long rifle & 9mm brass set aside to build rattles with..could use some center fire brass also but don't have. Perhaps much later i can use my bench top lathe to cut sone lure bodies!!  So many possiabilites & more ideas to gather from each other!!        Chuck Harrington

Hey Chuck, Recycling your on hand surplus works great. Worm weights and small egg sinkers make excellent spinner bodies. I have a young daughter so broken necklace/bracelet beads are on hand. Piano wire should be useable for many things, A buddy of mine makes all sorts of leaders n rigs with steel guitar strings. A simple wire bender can be had by driving a nail thru an old piece of wood. Rob the parts n pieces off of old useless/broken lures. Old broom/mop handles can be cut n carved into anything from poppers to frogs to crankbaits. Yep I am a packrat/cheapskate/scavenger/recycler however I have just recently bought some parts from lureparts online(stamina) so I could have a more proper assortment of stuff and trust me I have already put worm weights and necklace beads on some "new" spinners.

Actually Larry, I personally think it is fun to make lures out of odds and ends, I have caught fish on some of them also.  The new batch looks good and you may well get some hits.

Nice looking set of lures Larry...and remember...even if one of the lures works in one body of water...don't forget to try the others in other bodies of water.....throught the seasons.

It can be amazing what fish while hit from one lake to another lake or from one river to another in an area.

At the same time...Try to study up on different techniques with inlines....in particular, angles of cast / retrieve in relationship to current and "stop and reel's" in both current and lakes

Ok, this is my first project.  Three inline spinners as pictured below:

DSCF1049example1.jpg picture by doutt

Two of these are gifts and one goes into my tackle box!  The top spinner is assembled, the second is assembled but the componets are seperated and the last one is disassembled showing all the parts.  The parts that I am using are as follows:

1 - solid brass bead (7/32")

2 - solit brass bodies (#19)

1 - .040 gauge SS wire (looped)

1 - medium red plastic bead (optional)

1 - #6 pink colorado blade

1 - #3 clevis

All parts were purchased from Stamina, except for the plastic red bead.  So depending on who you order your parts from the size numbers may differ.  My next post will show twisting the line tie, choosing the treble and perhaps dressing the treble.

Pete, could you give us an estimate of the cost of producing your own compared to purchasing premade?

This is what I have done so far...

I made the bend at 3 1/2", made the twist and cut off the excess, saving the scraps for another project...

DSCF1052wirebendexample1.jpg picture by doutt

Next I added the split ring and set aside 3 #4/0 hooks...

DSCF1053splitringexample1.jpg picture by doutt

DSCF1051hooksexample1.jpg picture by doutt

I was asked for a cost break down so here goes:

1-colorado blade = .60

1-solid brass bead = .16

1-#3 clevis = .022

1- solid brass body = .60 (two required for this project)

1-.040 gauge SS wire (looped end) = .10

1-glass bead = .0199

1-size 5.6 Mustad split ring = .19

1-4/0 treble hook = .25

feathers, thread, etc for dressing the hook = .15

To make one of these the approx. total is $2.69.  Add another .50 for shipping the parts to me gives a grand total of $3.19.

The size I made these are a copy of the length and blade size that Mepps uses for their Musky Killers.  I'll have pics of the tying process and the finished product soon!
