If the bass are biting short some days, you need a trailer hook. Here is a easy and totally inexpensive way to attach a trailer hook. First what I do is get a cofee can lid and cut anywhere from 10-100 1/2" diameter circles. Store them in your tackle box. Next take one of the circles and attach to your main hook, slide on your trailer, and add another circle. Now if a bass bites short you'll have him in your livewell.

Thats a nice tip. I keep an eraser in my tackle box, and do the same thing with it. I will try the coffee can lid idea next time. It should be a little cleaner than bits of eraser evrywhere.

Small diameter plastic tubing works great for me. Certain brands of trailer hooks even have a short lenght of it in the package with the hooks. You cut a small piece of tube, just big enough to encase the eye of the trailer hook, slide it right over the eye, then place on main hook like usual. You can even cut a little longer piece of tubing and slide it further down, over the eye of the trailer hook, on down over the shank of the hook. This helps in keeping the hook inline with the lure, and to aid in the prevention of hang ups when fishing around wood, or other cover.

Guys, As far as spinnerbaits when the fish are short strikin instead of a trailer I trim the skirt so it is barely hidin the hook. Works like a champ.
