I have just started using the Wacky Worm rig and man, The results are awesome! I went fishing at a lake near my house that gets pressured a lot and came out on top! I always pay attention to the people around me and what they are using. I don't want to throw the same thing everyone else is using, the fish will not respond to it. I was using a jointed Rapala minnow with very little luck, a front was coming and it turned to overcast and chilly real quick, i knew the bite would pick up so i tied up a wacky rig and started dropping in holes of millfoil and at the edges of moss mats. I caught 5 fish in less than thirty minutes and the last fish was a good 3- 5 pounds! I love this rig, Berkley makes a worm called a heavy weight just for the setup, you should try it. You wont be disappointed!

Do you use and weight or just the hook and worm?  If you use a weight what shape and size is it?

No weight, just a 4/0 hook and hook the worm in the middle, i put the hook through the middle then pull it back through till the point just barely sticks through, the worm will pendulum on the way down while it is sinking, look for the berkley heavy weight worm, i use breen.

I cant remember who makes them, but there is a hard nose worm that works great on a wacky rig. They have some weight to them, and the action is nice. If I can think of who makes them I will post it.

Mann's makes the "Hardnose" baits, their wacky worm has the more resilient material in the center.  Some people use a rubber band to make a hard point and there is even a hook designed for wacky worms, has sort of a weedguard looking affair that is supposed to help keep the worms on.

You can also use an "o" ring around the middle of the worm and run your hook under it instead of through the worm. They last longer that way. Check out www.o-wackytool.com. Gary

I use the o-rings and the tool. They work really well.

you had asked about weight  some folks  cut the head of a finishing nail and insert it into the head .
This makes the lure  look more like a feeding minnow . let it settle to the bottom and then twitch it
kinda like fishing a stand up jig head .
