rigging anf dishin spoons

    i wanna know how everyone rigs and fishes a spoon. i just started with spoons and i just have a slip sinker above the spoon but everytime i cast the treble hook goes over the line and sinker. can i get everyones input on how they do it? Walleye Fisher

    Most of the time if I wanted more weight, I put on a heavier spoon. If you need weight above the lure, it might be better if it were fixed-will admit I don't do that often. Also check your casting style, you need the sure to lead, not anything else on the line. Maybe someone else can explain it better.

    The problem with adding weight to a spoon is that the line can get ahead of the spoon on the cast with just the result you describe. Try losing the weight for starters. Tom

    The only time I use a weight with a spoon is when I am straight line trolling.  I agree with "Pegsguy" on casting.  If you are using a small spoon then you will need to use a lighter line and perhaps a lighter action rod.  What I am saying is if you are trying to cast a 1/8 oz spoon (or even 1/2 oz some times) or lighter you will NOT have good luck with 10# test line!  I use 10# and up for 3/4 oz & 1 oz spoons.  I hope this helps!

    thank you for the information it helped alot. infact i took the sinker off switched to a slightly heaver spoon and caught a 23 inch rainbow on my 3rd cast thanks alot for the info Walleye Fisher
