I aquired a 14 ft Jon Boat that had been painted allready and would like to strip it down, cause it's faded, and paint it again.  Does anyone have any tip on how to PREP & PAINT a alluminum Boat , so the painy will last?  Is there a special Marine Primer to use?

Get some gel stripper and get off the old first.Flatten any small dings. Find out where to get it rhino lined the paint it with plastic primer then paint it.Rhino liner will make it indestuctable.

Thanks Old Fart...Is that Rhino Liner a Spray on or Brush on and is it  the same as used in the truck beds or is there a Marine Type that is waterproof?

Rhino liner stuff is applied by a dealer in the product, you can look them up in the phone book and ask them about the process. There is are consumer applied products available at most auto parts stores. Probobly not as durable as a Rhino or Line-ex liner but much less expensive.

Another option is to strip the hull, then prime it before painting. Martin Senour (a division of Sherwin Williams)used to offer a primer called Trioprime which was great on aluminum and would accept any kind of topcoat. Check with your local NAPA store, they have access to the MS line. Tom PS: Follow the directions TO THE LETTER!
