We discussed the regional meets and national celebration at the finger lakes meet, and I have nominated Pete Turnip( to be the member for the eastern region, and since he goes to quite a few meets each year and just about everyone in the club knows who he is), to be the one who takes notes at each meet he goes to when discussion comes up about the regional meets and national celebration. He will keep track of everyones ideas and suggestions and share them with the members at the next meet he attends, and jot down anything they want to add. I also strarted a sign-in sheet that will continue on to each meet for each member and their guest to sign in so we can keep track of attendance at each meet so we can get an estimate figured out for a regional meet. We will keep this thread going throughout the whole process, so if you'd like, you can post your suggestions o here also, just in case you cannot attend a certain meet. Dave, there has been discussion around the use of the word "meet" or "member meet" and the negative conitation it has for the editors and those that already conduct member meets. I would strongly urge the use of the word(s) celebration or anniversary when discussing this event. It seems that the editors like to celebrate mile-stones and this might give them a different flavor...We would not be asking them to conduct a member meet for anything. We do a darn good job of that already! I sure wish ole canepole would make his post...I think he makes a lot of sence and perhaps the editors would buy some of his suggestion. After all, the club must take the lead in this effort. My two cents... A National Celebration..?
I want to congratulate our club on it 20Th Anniversary, and look forward to the next milestone,,25 years.
In five years lets have a 25Th year CELEBRATION,,,a Celebration given by our club for our Club.
This is what I Visualize.
A weekend at one of the conference hotels at Minneapolis or St.Paul Minnesota. A weekend where all members from all corners are able to come together at one location to hear a seminar given by people like Dr Hal Schramm, Al Linder, Ted Takasaki, and Dan Gappen, Just to name a few. and to meet with them afterward, and in another area wouldn't it Be something to have the machine that was used to test the knots during the "knot wars" see that in action, then look around the corner and see a display of "through the years of the Club", Then you hear a voice behind you and its Kurt Beckstrom talking with a member who just drove up from Texas and was staying at the hotel, What is that behind them, a display from Rapala with commemorative lures only available here, being given away, got to have one of them, on the way to the display I pass Steve Penaze talking to some club members. glance to my left and on the table is a guest book for signing in, a quick glance through it and there are members from all corners here! Then I hear it,,the unmistakable voice,,"HI HOW ARE YA" music to my ears, His flight was delayed a little. this weekend has been like a family reunion, seeing old friends and meeting many new, and this is just the first day. what a weekend this will be! Looks like a bunch of the wives are getting ready to take the free shuttle to the Mall Of America, have to smile with the though of how many new wardrobes will be purchased along with matching shoes, and remembering that Minnesota doesn't have tax on clothing. Then the tummy rumbles, reminding me about the buffet about to start in a few minutes, as I get closer to the hall where lunch is, The sound from the room is just alive with laughter and chatter of all sorts its almost deafening,, where else can you bring together this many people of so many walks of life and back grounds and have this much enjoyment! While eating you can hear the plans being made for the upcoming day, The table behind me are planning to go take the special members only tour of the Lund boat factory, while others going to take a trip to Hayward Wisconsin to the fresh water hall of fame, and the car load that come up from Texas is talking about stopping to see the Berkely plant in Spirit lake Iowa on the way home. And tonight I will be going over the the bunch of members that are staying at the campground just outside of the "Cities" hoping to do a little night catfishinwith them, they are spending a couple of extra days into next week, which sounds like fun, also heard a rumor that some of the "Top Names" will be dropping and fishing with them,,how cool is that! and for me when this weekend is done Ill be stopping at the new bass pro shop that opened last month for a few "supply's" Then some members and myself will be fishing on the way home.
as I reflect on the people that I just meet, the stories just heard and told during the last couple of days I beging to to think that I don't have enough vacation next year to get together with all of the new friendships that where made here and to get the house painted too,, the painting will have to wait another year

I dont know where this subject stands, so if its not happening anymore just disreguard my post, I would like to get with people who enjoy to see, breath, taste, smell, and dream of fish just as much I do. You for sure would need a lake big enough to hold atleast 200+ campers which does give us a lot of choice but the locations that keep getting brought up is not a Central Location, I really think we should be Looking more at somewhere like Wilson Res in Kansas somewhere that is more of a Central Location. If you look what is offered in that fishery its not a bad place to go you have plenty of White Bass, Walleye, Stripers, Largemouth, Smallmouth, Crappie, Gills, Big Flatheads, and good size channels. Something for almost everyone except the diehard Muskie and Pike Fishers. Cheney Res Next to Wichita Ks has the camping area for eveyone but the fishery has went downhill over the past 10 years, Have not Heard anything on Cannopolis for a while so I can not speak on that one, But I have heard that Marian has been booming the past few years so it could be good this year too or go downhill. I grew up fishing Wilson Res and I have never seen anything more beautiful, in a long long time, as a matter of fact I still stop by the lake on my way back home To Holdrege Ne from Wichita Ks every holiday just to look at it see how much more mother nature has given it character. It may sound like I am favoring this area cause I live in this area, which may be true. But, it "is" more of a centered loaction for everyone to meet, the real midway USA Kinsley, Ks is only about an hour and a half from there. One more time like I had already stated in this post if this has already been decided thats fine ill go along for the ride, but please disreguard this post. |

I recently read on another site that certain members received a response from the NAFC stating that they will not promote, endorse or sponsor any member meet or celebration of the 25th anniversary of the NAFC. I also read that since this was the response from the NAFC that those persons were no longer going to be involved in such celebration. My question is, why would anyone promote a club that does not care about them ? I say just keep on doing it the way you are and forget about celebrating a club's 25th anniversary. Therefore, I will not give them free advertising any longer by wearing anything that has their NAFC logo on it. I will not go out and try to get my friends and family to become members of a club that does not care about it's members or their concerns. For those of you members that are holding member meets, you just keep on doing what you are doing....after all, it's about us members and not the club. So I suggest that the next time you have a member meet, just promote your meet for the members and not the NAFC. The NAFC is not a club, it is an advertising company that can kiss my behind. |

Point well taken Perch-jercker. As everyone is well aware money drives the wheel. My hope is that the "CLUB" officers some day will realize that they can make money at these meets and provide a great oppertunity for its members and to increase it membership. I 'm sorry to say that day has yet to come. In the mean time I would encourge everyone to find and go to every member meet you can. Lifemember and Bushwacker SMF

Not yet Fred......We are still in the infant stages and are trying to hold discussions about this event at each and every member meet this year all around the country. After these discussions, a spokesperson from each meet is requested to send their input from each discussion to Pete (Turnip) who is going to help us keep track of all of the input to date. I will be meeting with him at the Finger Lakes Meet to see where we stand so far and then we will post it on here. But....In the meantime, I would like for everyone to continue on here with their input on this topic. Thanks and I hope to be working with you as well with this topic. BD .
