As most of you already know our Annual meet will be held at West Branch State Park, June 17 - 20, 2010. West Branch is located by Ravenna. This is the same place we held it last year. Those that attended last year may remember that the weather didn't cooperate very well but the fishing was excellent. Hopefully this year’s weather will better since we are holding it in June.
For those that don't know anything about West Branch, this is one of the main lakes in Ohio that receives annual stockings of muskie and does have record size muskie in it. It has a good population of LM and SM bass and a residual stocking of stripers from previous stockings. All of these species are good size. There are of course plenty crappie and gills all with their share of respectable sizes. Add on cats, pike, walleye, and saugeye and you have a pretty good fishery. There is a boat ramp by the camp site and boats are unlimited.
The lake has a lot of sudden points, drop offs, vegetation areas and several small islands to fish around. Water access from shore is available but somewhat sparse in some areas. It is a somewhat large lake and can catch some pretty good wind gusts. All in all if the weather cooperates it is a good lake to fish in.
We will once again be using the group sites. We will have one site from Monday through Sunday and the second site Thursday through Sunday. This year there has been some discussion about some members wanting to come for the week, in order to do this we need people that are willing to sponsor a day. The group sites cost $40.00 per night with electric, which we did use. All monies for the sites need to be to me before April 3, 2010. I would like to pay off the sites by then, so that it is out of the way. I will pay for two (2) days. This will leave 7 more days to be sponsored.
Anyone that wishes to use the group sites will be able to do so without having a site fee. If you choose to use other camp sites it will be your responsibility. Those reservations must be made directly thru the ODNR, either on line or over the phone.
In order to help cut the chapter’s cost, there will be a charge of $2.00 per adult per day. This is to help defray the cost of Coffee, paper products and other misc. supplies we need to make the meet successful. If you wish to come, and for whatever the reason can't afford the $2.00 per night per adult, let me know and we will see what we can work out. I would hate to let anybody miss out on a great time over a couple of bucks. Don't be shy let me or one of the officers know by sending a pm, I have been through some real rough times myself before, and know what it is like.
This year we will have a boat sign up at the registration table for those that are bringing a boat and wouldn't mind sharing the space with someone that doesn't have a boat. It will be time specific and we ask anyone with a boat with extra space to share it with another member.
As chairman I believe that it is the chapter’s responsibility to offer some security for our campers and their property at the camp site. We will have a signup at the registration table for members to sign up and share the responsibility, instead of having a few people do it. This will give everyone some fishing and family time.
An agenda will be handed out at the registration table to everyone as they sign in. It will include planned activities, kids’ activities, meal times, meeting times, and what ever else we need to put on it. Sounds busy but there will be plenty of fishing time, the idea is so everyone knows what is going on and when. As always it is up to the individual if they wish to take part in any activity. A group picture will also be on the agenda and that is the one thing we really want everyone to be a part of.
We will monitor this site and the club site, so there will be duplicate sign up areas. PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE sign up only on one site. WE WILL BE CHECKING BOTH SITES at least once a day and writing it down in case there are any computer problems. There will eventually be a master list posted under the appropriate topic and it will be kept current. Again please do not post on both our chapter site and the club site only post one time. If you don't see your information posted when the master is updated let Amym know and she will take care of it.
I think I got it all, finally, so please read over everything carefully and thank you for your cooperation.
God Bless
Arv1

Does anyone know how much a boat rental is at the park? I will try to google it, but any information would be helpful. I might be able to make the drive for a night or two depending on my wifes schedule. Lifer since 05/08....Ky....Fred |

Fred - If you are interested, some of the members may be willing to chip in to rent a pontoon boat. Just a suggestion.

Thanks guys. I hope I can make it up there. The lake sounds like a fishing hot spot with plenty of species. Lifer since 05/08....Ky....Fred |

There are a lot of species there to fish for. Musky being one of the main ones. There are boat rentals available and there are several members that have rented them in the past. If you would like you can register on the Ohio Chapter site and make some connections. nafcohiochapter.com .I hope you can make it . Camping in the group site is free the only thing we ask for is $2.00 per adult per night, this helps cover costs of coffee, plastic ware, plates etc... and you will meet some super people. I can guarantee they will make you feel at home. Check out the site and you can get the feel of group and see some pictures of past meets. Ohio Chapter Chairman

Welp, the "Bushwacker" is checked out...The batteries are good to go, the trolling motor (old one) is in good shape and I'm on my way to pick up a pair of transom straps. When I get back I will load my tackle, making sure all my ropes are in good shape and tire pressure is still where it needs to be.
Later this morning I'll make the turtle soup...Saturday afternoon I'll smoke the salmon...My air mattress is in good to go shape along with the frame. I am going over my camp kitchen, making sure I have everything and that it's in good shape.
It has been a long time since Erabbit and I have been out to this meet...I think I may do my journal this time...Woo wee, we got us a meet! |
