Hi folks, my girlfriend recently had to replace her hard drive, and now the format for my replies is different, and I have no smileys. Is there something I have to do to get them back. I'd hate for my sarcasm to be taken the wrong way. (insert smiley here)

Have you guys changed anything major as far as software lately?

Does the little "window" even "open up" that would normally have them?

MANY things could cause this....and the anti-virus software thought is just ONE of those.

All I have for anti-virus software is SpyBot S & D...and I'm still on IE 7....and no problems.

No the window doesn't pop up, and the reply field is really small. I usually add a couple of spaces at the end of my posts to separate my signature from the rest of the post, and when I do it on hers it doesn't work.

    Very well could be Sam.

Microsoft always releases new software that has "issues" with certain applications  which is why I haven't downloaded the IE 8 yet

I must admit though...when IE 7 came out...I can't remember having any problems.

What WILL happen is that as Microsoft receives "bug reports" from a bunch of users, they will start addressing various problems.

AB...check to see what screen resolution you are using. You can do this by Right clicking in an open area of the Desktop, then click on Properties, then Settings.

You can check other things by doing the same INITIAL Right click, then on Graphics Options and Graphics Properties.

Finally, if you Right click on the My Computer icon on your Desktop, then follow the sequence in this screenshot to Update the Monitor Driver...

Also....go here and try to download the Java SE Runtime Environment (JRE) Version 6....

    http://developers.sun.com/downloads/top.jsp

This is necessary for running apps on several websites these days.

It really sounds like an IE8 problem. I'm NOT computer savy but I see differences. I mainly use firefox to post because it remembers my log in.  I only use use IE7 when posting pics because I still haven't figured out an easy way with firefox. Also with IE, which I think they are trying to set this forum up for, you can see a response to your post much faster. I haven't downloaded IE8 so can't be sure?

I think you're right about IE8. I've been having the same problems as Angry Bob and BassAckwards00 since my upgrade. Another problem I'm having that wasn't mentioned is I can't paste pictures from photobucket here or anywhere else. If you haven't upgraded yet, DON'T !!! At least not until all the bugs are worked out.

    I'm not having problems anymore - I'm back on IE 7 .

I sent an e-mail microsoft customer service telling them the problems I've been having, and to my surprise they replied. They sent instructions on how to uninstall IE 8 and said that IE 7 was the default program on Windows Vista.

In the control panel you go to uninstall a program.

Click on View installed updates then double click on Windows IE 8

In the Uninstall an update dialog box, click on Yes

Follow the instructions on the screen, restart your computer when it's finished, and your back to IE 7.

DaveD, I followed your instructions as closely as I could. I don't have Vista but I do have XP so the process is slightly different. Problem is nothing has changed for me...I even rebooted! The BB doesn't look right, I still can't copy and paste a pic any more and the "post a reply" window is very small (no smilies either). So, can someone tell me what has changed? I know the site was down for a couple of hours two days ago and ever since when I log in I am prompted to "My Account". Is that the same for everyone?...I am at a loss here, and I should note that this is the only website that I have a problem with...HELP PLEASE!

The e-mail I got from microsoft had the following link that is supposed to have additional methods of un installing IE8.

I haven't checked it out because the first set of instructions worked for me. Maybe it will help you out.

I talked directly with the supervisor of tech support.  The text info in the link will not always remove IE8.  I will outline the steps later.  The important thing here is that there are some web sites that need to upgrade their software and servers (this info was provided by the supervisor) and they asked me to pass this along to the "management!"  It seems that they (Microsoft) are aware of the problems that members are having with IE8 and fishingclub.com...

    Process For XP:

    click on start button

    click on Run

type IE8 in the box provided

    click OK

a window will open with several icons & folders

in the upper left had corner you should see a yellow folder (can't remember the name)

double click on the yellow folder

a few more icons will appear

double click on the icon that looks like a computer

follow prompts for removal.  It will automatically reboot when finished.

The techie said that this is the easiest and complete way to remove it.  To double check, go to IE, click on Help and it will tell you what version you are currently using...

I hope this helps and I have remembered the steps correctly!  DaveD, thanks for all your help!
