Yep, That's what I said Pete. Most states it's OK, but does not hold true on the Great Lakes or internationally. And most states are seperated by rivers, not by lakes. Now let's say you launched in the Mississippi from Wisconsin. You can fish either side of the river, but you must have a Wisconsin license and return with your fish to Wisconsin. But if you launch in Rainey Lake in Minnesota with a Minnesota license, then cross by water into Ontario, you better have an Ontario license.

On Lake St Clair, you have to stay on your side of the line if you don't have both licenses. Only problem is they don't paint that line very good. And i don't know how well the Canadian Authorities mark their boats.

I guess you'll need the GPS coordinates so that you can stay straight...Shame it has to work that way! Frowner<!--graemlin::(-->

It's a fact on Rainy Lake Pete...but laws are laws. We fish right near the lake border and have been checked a couple of times already. The Border Guards were only interested in seeing if we knew exactly where we were on the water and which side of the lake border we were on. We had GPS (that day) and knew that we were about 500 yrds. from the border. Then they wanted to check licenses and our creel, as well as our I.D's but I refused giving all of those. They were Canadian Border Crossing Guards and not the Ministry of Natural Resources, the guys that we have to show our licenses and creel to. They were real snotty with us, but I held fast and eventually they moved along down the lake. Not a very professional group in my opinion but that's how it is since all border crossings have tightened up Frowner<!--graemlin::(-->.

I don't even want to fish anywhere near the border with the Illinois registration on my boat. We were checked by the OPP last time on Rainey with an MNR guy on board, and they were very pleasant and professional. They looked at our licenses and creel and even answered our questions about the slot and the lake. I'm sure that if we were close to the border, the border patrol would have given us a hard time. I've read some horror stories from guys that's happend to.

Last night Dave and I did a "map quest" and "Yahoo maps" for Rainy lake. It looks like it will take 16 hours to get to Minneapolis, and not sure how long from there to Rainy Lake Sports & Tackle. We looked at three different ways to get there and this looks like the fastest. Wayne, you have a lot of experience traveling to Pa. for ball games, can you add some insite to this? Howard, that will mean we will need 4 days (total both ways) just for travel...I need 3 days (total both ways) just for Gwinn.

It seems like this trip is headed toward Rainy Lake in June, and there are others that have expressed interest in LOTW in SEpt perhaps. So will there in fact be a LOTW trip?

If we do go the Rainy lake in June route and decide to put it in the Member meets forum that puts it in direct conflict or competition with the Gwinn meet. So I think it's better to say it's a fishin trip we're plannin and keep it in the Midwest forum. Don't wanna get Doc crustier than he already is. Big Grin<!--graemlin::D-->

I never gave that a thought about conflicting with anothr member meet. But folks (those considering attending this trip) will have to make the same decision either way...6 a one and half a dozen of another. June will be a conflict month for many. And we'll just have to prioritize our lives and make a decision as we would when deciding which member meet to attend...I really don't care where we post it as long as we do and move on! This stuff from the begining:

Well guys, I just tried to copy over from the last PM and the site kept stoppong me...I'll try again.

Hey guys, I sent Walleye Wayne a PM, tellin' him about the plans we are slowly puttin' together concerning LOTW in 2009. His response was: "that sounds great! pencile in me and Brett. LOTW is just down the road from my cottage!" Just thought you would like to know...I can't wait!

This year I'll get down to FL in Feb. or Mar., Walleye opener in MN in May, La Crosse in July and VA I don't know when, but gotta make it this year. Fl & VA are trips to see family.
No Canada trip in 07. Frowner<!--graemlin::(-->
In 08 I hope to get to LOTW and find some good fishin spots for 09.

This year I have the N.E. meet in May, Gwinn in June, fingerlakes in Sept. and Raystown in Sept. Not to mention various mini meets in Pa thru the summer. So far all systems are go with a trip to Washington to see Yellow Bird and fish my way back to LaCrosse with Dave for that meet in 2008. I don't think I will get to any other meets that year except for local Pa ones. Right now LOTW is top priority for 2009. Everything else will have to work around that!

Sept has been thrown out but there is the chance of runnin into some chilly weather then do you agree. I've always heard that June is a pretty good month for Canada, I'm pretty much open the whole summer as long as I have some notice.

I would also consider a second week Up North Big Grin<!--graemlin::D--> but at Rainy...if'n Wayne was available.

For that matter...if canepole was interested...him and I may carpool / caravan...I talked to him last night...and he'd definitely like the muskie trip...and would also consider Rainy to visit with Wayne Wink<!--graemlin:;)-->

Bass opens in June up here Wink<!--graemlin:;)-->. Sept. is not too cold too fish either. After mid-July and August the walleye fishing slows down and is really only productive in the evenings on Rainy Lake. June is by far the best month to fish on Rainy Lake and LOTW shares the same watershed so things are the same on that lake. Doing a combined Rainy Lake & LOTW trip would be very tough. I suggest whomever is in picks one or the other and then we plan from there. LOTW has many ideal resorts to choose from if that's what most are leaning towards Wink<!--graemlin:;)-->. Thoughts.....?

Lazarus & Greymist have both been to our cottage so they can probably offer some advice also Wink<!--graemlin:;)-->.

Well yeah, I think June is the best time for fishing, but every year I need to be at the graduation ceremony for the theology school where I'm on the Board of Directors, and the assembly for my synod where I do a workshop and set up a booth for the school. The bishop requires me to be there as I am a synod deacon. They always seem to be on consecutive weekends at the latter part of June. That causes a problem for me for going anywhere in June. Frowner<!--graemlin::(-->

My lake preference is LOTW because I fell in love with it the last time I was there in 1998 but haven't been able to get back since. That's just my preference, not my final choice.

Try and work with that and decide what you think is best. Just don't break my heart. Roll Eyes<!--graemlin::rolleyes:-->

Taylors and Coppens probably treat their guests just fine...but they have no interest in selling me gas or bait, despite our cottage is in the same bay as them, because I'm not American. I understand their business is to cater to the "American Market" but when people live almost beside each other, shouldn't they treat each other with respect? Ray stayed at The Fisheries so he can give you an idea. The Fisheries

Boy, I like dat link! Big Grin<!--graemlin::D--> Thanks Wayne! Smiler<!--graemlin::)--> There were three cabins that caught my eye.
Cabin #1...Sleeps up to 11, $1400/wk.

Cabin #2...Sleeps up to 7, has dock, $1500/wk

Cabin #9...Sleeps up to 5, has dock, $800/wk

This would make for a very reasonable stay. Even for those of use coming from a long distance. By the look of the pics, I might be able to realize my goal of a 20# pike! Eeker<!--graemlin::eek:--> Big Grin<!--graemlin::D-->

turnip from Minneapolis you go to International Falls/Fort Frances border crossing which I believe is about another 5 hour drive down HWY #53. Our cottage on Rainy Lake is a 1/2 hour drive from the I-Falls border or Rainy Lake Tackle and Sports Wink<!--graemlin:;)-->.
