I'm moved to MA a few years ago from PA. I like to go to the Cape Cod Canal and areas around the Cape to try to hook some stripers. I'm still a rookie at it and I need some inside tips from the native New Englanders on how to catch them.

What's the best bait or lure to use?

What kind of rig should I be using?

Is it all about getting started just before high tide, or is there more to it?

    Where are the hot spots?

    Thank you!

I don't usually fish the Cape but in Hampton, NH it depends on what mood those darn fish are in. I've caught them on live bait, chunk, artificials and slow-trolling spoons. I always go out to fish the incoming tide, stripers like all bass love to congregate near the structure, rocks, jettes, wrecks, bridge pylons. Just keep trying different methods and pay attention to local fish reports and you'll do well.

FIRST YOU START WITH A POLE.  ADD A REEL, ADD LINE TO REEL, ADD HOOK TO LINE. ADD SLIP SINKER TO LINE.  SOME TYPE OF BAIT WOULD BE NICE.  SAY GOODBY TO YOU WIFE FOR YOU ARE GOING TO INVEST ALOT OF TIME.  GOOD LUCK.

Sharp hook and a wad of fresh clam will do the trick.
