I need some info/idea's regarding the replacement of a transom on a 1980 14'Starcraft aluminum boat. My boat holds 4 people and a 50 HP motor. The marine repair shop that I have my boat at, says that they have to completely remove the entire rear end of the boat in order to replace the transom. In the back of my mind, I think that I'm being taken for a financial ride by the marine repair shop. They say it will cost me somewhere between $800 and a $1000 to replace the transom. The original written estimate that they gave me said the cost would be $300 plus tax. I still have that estimate. I have in the past worked for Mirrocraft and installed new transom's in those boats. It was a breeze! Can anyone help or offer idea's? You can email direct at olddog48@bayland.net. My name is Bill.

    Thanks in advance.
