    Fresh Waters
    Salmon
    · Sockeye salmon are moving up the Eyak River, but not in large numbers yet. Watch the hole at the outlet of Eyak Lake for early jumpers.

    Trout
    · Trout fishing will remain closed until June 15 to protect spawning fish.

    Dolly Varden
    · Dolly Varden char are feeding on salmon fry in most streams. Billy’s Hole, Eshamy, and Jackpot lakes are good bets, as well as Ibeck Creek, and Hartney Bay near Cordova. Small fish-patterned flies and small lures are the best for Dollies during the salmon fry migration.

    · Most stream mouths in the Sound will have feeding Dolly Varden this time of year.

    Salt Water Fishing
    Salmon
    · Early salmon may be found by Esther Island or along the outer edges of Valdez Arm.

    · Early Chinook or chum salmon will strike a trolled herring or green jigs.

    · Troll slower for king salmon and use a flasher.

    · Look for Main Bay to be the first to get sockeye salmon.

    Halibut
    · Halibut anglers have had good luck out of Whittier near Culross Island, and near Knight Island. Goose Island and Knowles Head have been good spots for Valdez anglers.

    · Halibut will be in shallower waters this time of year, around 100 feet or less.

    · South Montague and Cape Cleare are also good spots for those wishing to venture to more distant locations. This is where I will be heading in July
