where do you consider the lower salt to be? i have done some flathead fishing just above roosevelt...i struggled as well. i know there are huge catfish there, but still havent been able to connect. i'd love to compare notes though.

I'm talking about the stretch of river between saguaro lake dam west to granite reef. I've had luck with channel cats on night crawlers and a three way rigs using a three way rig with a bobber about a half a foot from the hook to keep it off the bottom. fished it right on the edge of the main current.this was at the coon bluff stop. hope this helps. good luck charlie.

i am not familiar with that area, i usually fish above roosevelt lake, between the lake and the diversion dam. as i mentioned, i havent had much luck, and have tried a three way rig as you mentioned...maybe next time ill add the bobber like you mentioned. the current is usually really fast, and there is a lot of aquatic vegetation. i usually pull in a whole bunch of veg when i bring my line. like i mentioned ive seen the flathead, and seen pictures of people who have caught them in this stretch of the river, but i havent figured it out.

i catch some small bluegill with a cast net, or hook and line. i use a egg sinker with two beads on either side of the sinker on the main line connected with a barrel swivel to a 50# mono leader with a circle hook on the business end. put n a live dorsal fin hooked bluegill. cast out and completely loosen the drag so there is no resistence when he cat takes the bluegill. when the drag starts singing, i tighten up the dragand sweep the rod up to tighten the line and start reeling. works best for me during the summer, but especially in the fall. have not tried for crappie, but heard the fishing there is good for crappie. id be happy to tell you where i fish, if you promise to catch and release all flathead (im a catch and release guy for cats over 5 pounds)...want to preserve the flathead fishery as much as possible...email me at c_kendrick@hotmail.com if interested.
