It has been the time the squid have been showing up, and they are certainly around. Fish at night off a boat, and see how well you can do.

Depending on what part of california you live in, if you know of any local landings around you area, see if they are running any squid trips. San diego, off mission bay and point loma have been running squid trips that have fish counts that are sometimes good, and sometimes not soo good.

If you are a private boater, You have to find the squid to be able to have a fishing trip. That's usually the hard part is finding the squid, because sometimes there are no sings of squid anywhere, and sometimes there are.

The giant squid are in very deep waters, offshore usually, and around 800 to 1,400 foot depth of water. Let out as much line in you reel as possible in the begginning of fishing, and be aware you are most likely not going to hit the bottom, which may not be necessary. If you hit the bottom pretty quick, and you still have tons of line left in your spool, you are not in the right spot. Again, go offshore, and when you fish, just drift along, hoping the wind will blow your boat, so you can go over underwater vallys, or structure that may have squid.

Using one of the large glowing squid jigs that weigh around 3/4 - 1 1/2 pouinds are good to use for giant squid, and make sure you let some bright light charge up the glow for a couple of minutes. And an addition to the jig, there are small flashing lights that are waterproof, and turn on as soon as they hit the water, and they have a 300 hour battery.

If you have a private boat, try to have some kind of  lights that hang out on both sides of your boat, to attract squid. If you go off a boat from a landing, notice how they do have addidtional lights om both sides of the boat.

Once you are ready, throw your jig down, and let your line go as far as possible. Once you, or other fisherman are catching squid on the same boat you are on, the giant squid may move up closer to the surface, and sometimes they may be right at the surface of the ocean water. This means you don't have to drop down all the way.

Once a squid takes your jig, it could be while you are dropping the jig down, or reeling up. When you are reeling up, reel slowly every so often to let the squid notice it, instead of reeling up fast, and the squid are'nt able to gat a good look at it, and keep up with it.

Use these tips and instructions when squid fishing, and remember squid fishing can be difficult, and always keep trying and you will find alot of success squid fishing. GOOD LUCK!!!!!!
