My last outing was the weekend of the 7th and 8th. I fished the Hollows and Crystal Lake. The wind killed me at the Hollows, but I did land 2 large mouth (1 pounders). Caught one on a black, 4" Ho Daddy Texas rigged and the other on a dual willowleaf spinnerbait. I did not catch anything on Crystal Lake, but "we" caught one large mouth and a northern pike on deep diving crankbaits. On both lakes, the water is still cold so everything was caught deep. Fished the skokie lagoons sat the 14th with my father and we got skunked. Was at the Hallows friday th 20th hooked one largemouth on a Strike King rocket shad turned around to show my daughter let the pressure off and she spit the lure still a good day.

Went out monday the 14th with my father and brother. We fished at the chain we cought between 10 and 15 largemouths between 1 and 3 pounds 2 catfish and 1 drum. All these fish were caught on a 3" purple berkley tube and 6" black power worm. We also caught a crappie bluegill and walleye on minows. It was a good day.

Don't want to upset anyone, but I do have to brag. I was able to get up to Michigan (Hamlin Lake in Ludington) on May 17 to the 20th. What luck...it apparently was the only 4 decent days we've had in 2001! We were definitely on the rock bass (1 1/2 lbs); we caught over 50 in the 3 days. My personal highlights were a 2 lb smallmouth and a 3 lb largemouth. Amazingly, everything was caught with live bait (worms).

Back to Illinois, the weather has been terrible. I made it out Saturday (May 26) morning before the rains arrived. On a small private pond in Fox Lake, we boated over 25 largemouth (12 were mine ) in 2 hours utilizing top water Rapala's (perch and crawdad). The action was great! I'm a strong beliver in "catch & release". Last year's 11 to 12", 3/4 lbs fish were now being caught as 14", 1 1/2 lb'ers! I can't wait until next year! The ultralight action can't be beat.

Sorry I haven't post here sooner; Here goes, I took Spence Petros' fishing class this pastmarch and april, he talked a lot about drop shot method, and fire line. I tried them opening day for walleye in northern Wisc. out fished everyone, it worked great, but they were all 16" males, females wern't feeding yet. Been to Bangs lake a few times, caught tons of crappie early may, sence then its been spoty, a few large mouth, walleye, northern. Blew a day off work last week and went to heideke, hy bred stripers were the fish of the day, biggest was around 8lbs. heard when I took the boat out that a 16lb. was caught that day also. I was useing blade baits and he got it on live shrinp. Leave for Canada a week from friday. I'll be checking back more offten, good fishing everyone.
