I just read a thing that said, "Nonresident Disabled Veterans Receive Permit Exemption" So I thought I would share it with you all. And also ask if anyone knows of any other states that does the same thing? I after reading this I found out that Illinois also lets non-resident veterans hunt and/or fish for free or near free, like their own resident veterans can...

The link I read it at is

    http://www.buckmasters.com/bm/Resou...fault.aspx

Here, pasted below is a little bit of what I read at the link above.

A recent decision by the Missouri Conservation Commission extended permit exemptions to all qualifying disabled veterans and former prisoners of war, regardless of where they live.

The Commission made the change at its meeting March 19 in Kansas City. Previously, only Missouri residents who were honorably discharged military veterans with service-related disabilities of 60 percent or more and Missourians who were prisoners of war during military service did not have to purchase resident small-game hunting or fishing permits.

Now the exemption applies to veterans from other states who meet the same standards.

The Commission also changed rules to allow qualifying nonresident veterans to purchase resident deer and turkey hunting permits. This represents a substantial savings.

Anyway, I thought I would share this with my fellow Iowa's so that if you happen to know any one who is a 60% or more disabled veteran, either here in Iowa or in some other state. That they can now hunt and/or fish in Illinois and/or Missouri, for free, even if you are not a resident of those states. Actually Missouri's doesn't go into effect until August. But if you want to fish or hunt in Illinois all you have to do is contact a local Veteran's Office in Illinois and they will give you the needed permits to fish or hunt. Both will need to see verifaction that you are a disabled veteran. Oh, and I believe Illinois only requires you to be 10% or more. But check with their website to make sure.

Anyway, I think this is great for the disabled veterans who served the whole country, and not just the state that they came from. I wish more states would do this or maybe even come out with a Federal Hunting/fishing permit to lets disabled veteran's hunt or fish in any U.S. territory.

Anyway, if anyone knows of any other state of U.S. Territory that does this same thing, PLEASE post it here, to let the Disabled Veterans know. As an Unemployed Disabled Veteran myself, maybe I can hunt and fish places other than my home state of Iowa...

I just got an email from the California Department of Fish & Game. I had emailed them a few days ago, when I heard about this Missouri law being changed. And in the email I got today from them, it said that fishing & hunting licenses are available to resident and nonresident honorably discharged veterans with a service-connected disability rating of 50% or more.

So here is an other state for those Disabled Veterans who might want to hunt in other states other than their own state. This should help lessen the cost for you a little bit...

So from what I know of for sure now, California, Illinois, Missouri (sometime in August 2008 ) does this free or discounted permits for disabled veterans.

Oh, and I for got to say, California's deal it reduced fee's. A link that was in my email is

    http://www.dfg.ca.gov/licensing/fis...duced.html and http://www.dfg.ca.gov/licensing/off...ation.html and also at http://www.dfg.ca.gov/licensing/pdf...320_08.pdf

Anyway, I hope this helps out anyone who have wondered about this. If I get any more information I will post it. Or if any of you know anything about this subject place post it here. I know that there are a lot of disabled veterans here who might like to know this.

Well have a good day everyone!!!

It's great to hear that our vets are getting a break from somebody.  It's the least that can be done for them.  Whoever decided to do this should be applauded.
