I have had to learn new names for several fish since moving here. I had to do that so I could understand what my local friends were talking about. What I used to call blue gill are now bream, Sunfish = shell cracker, white bass = stripes, striped bass = rock fish, dog fish = bowfin, drum = perch. I am getting the hang of the different names. But it did confuse me some at first. And oh ya, if you go back far enough in the DNR rule book, you will find that what are now called crappie all over the US of A, used to be called calico bass when I was a young boy up in Michigan.
