ok so i took my brother out to catch some cats last night. he's 11 i'm going on 24. it's the one thing we can do together that we're both interested in ya know. fishing. what boy don't like to go fishing with his dad or big brother. anyways he tried using cheese and i was using the normal ball of night crawlers. i caught the only cat in the hour and a half period we were out. it was a good looking cat and where i don't fish for cats very much and i haven't since i was probably 13 or 14 i totally forgot one thing about cats. they have really strong jaws and you don't hold them by the mouth. yep dumb old me sticks my thumb right into his mouth and grabs ahold of his bottom jaw. i guess that he was a bit hungrier than i thought because he grabbed ahold of my thumb and wouldn't let go until i did. finally i get the cat to calm down so i can remember how to get my hook back and this guy swallowed mine so it was gonna be a real trick to see it again. i'm holding onto him trying to get the hook to pop out of his throat when he decides to chomp down on my pliers snapping my hook in half and holding onto my pliers for quite a while. i'm going back out again tonight with my brother to see if he can catch one but first i gotta get his pole set up for the drag before the fish runs off all his line or he has to use his hands to pull it in. we took a picture of it but it was on a camera phone and all that showed up was the white belly so i'm bringing my camera tonight if i can remember it.

Next time you got out for cats. Stop at a grocery store and grabe some nice fresh bloody liver. Any kind will do from chick to what ever you can find. Now my suggesting is Files the barb on the hooks your useing for them doen so they are almost bardless and use a 20 pound leader of about 2 or 3 feet long with a slidding sinker before a barrel swivel. If you want to catch Cats, thats the way. Or if you can get your hands on it chopped Harring. I dont know if you guys in the western part of the state can get it? Im sure if you look you can. But I say liver because it work very well and its easy to come by. Let me know how you do. I bet ya you'll get more then a few Catfish with liver or Harring cut chunk. Also I have had very large Cat bite down on me. Its not that bad its the fact that the fish will grunt at me that freaks me out. lol Watch out for the SPIKES as well.

i know all about the spines. but the last time i went catfishing i was about 10 years younger and forgot how to get my hook back. and i'm not used to having to use pliers or anything else to get my hook out of a fish. i'm used to being able to just grab the hook and pop it out of the lip but this cat just swallowed the hook. i grabbed some chicken livers this morning for tonights fish. i'm also rerigging my old pole and putting new line on it so i can use it again and since the last time i used it was maybe 6 years ago i'm pretty sure the line is no good anymore. hopefully tonights fish will be more fun and successful than last nights was.
