A Michigan Chapter sounds good and I would be willing to join but it seems like we need a real leader to get us started. Someone who is good with the computer and has a lot of time to plan and run it.
Mr Bill - I am going to be in Hudsonville next week for my new grandsons baptism. Isn't that just north of you? It's just outside of Grand Rapids.
You all have a safe and happy weekend. Cool<!--graemlin::cool:-->

Ok my friends, Here's an idea...Since your already members of the NAFC, There are no extra "dues" to be paid to become a member of said "Michigan Chapter", What we did was get a "core group" of members that we met here on the bulletin board, that thought it was an excellent idea to start up the NAFC Ohio Chapter, back in February of this year. We all agreed on a date and location to have a regular "meeting", we met at the "Dutch Valley Resturant" in Sugarcreek,Ohio. We had a set time of 9:00 a.m., we made our introductions, talked for a little while, had breakfast, and then our meeting. We discussed starting up the Ohio Chapter, in which we all voted for, then we had "nominations of officers" (Chairman, Co-Chairman & Treasurer/Secretary- which could actually be 2 different people), and voted in the officers. We discussed and began the planning stages of our first Ohio Meet and went from there. Several of us made money donations to get the stuff we needed to sell raffle tickets and 50/50 tickets for the fundraisers. It took some hard work and lot's of time, but was well worth it. After you get it started up and rolling, having fundraisers and such, the chapter will run itself as far as expenses go... Wink<!--graemlin:;)--> That way the members are not cleaning out their wallets to pay for everything. You guys are moving in the right direction, with the Gwinn Meet in it's 6th year is it already ? Great... Wink<!--graemlin:;)-->Sounds like there's already a "core" group of members there.... now how to get 'em all together on this Michigan Chapter idea... Wink<!--graemlin:;)-->

You've gotta get the word out here on the bulletin board, also make up some fliers and hang them up in your local bait shop, if you run across someone while you are out that is sporting a NAFC sticker on their vehicle or boat, introduce yourself and tell 'em what your up to... Brian, I think the first thing to do would be to find out exactly how many members would be interested in attending a "planning meeting". Like i mentioned earlier, plan to meet someplace like a country kitchen that has a "group room", meet everyone, have breakfast, and then get organized... Wink<!--graemlin:;)-->

Also, you might consider having your first planning meeting in a centralized location to be fair to everyone that has to travel... Wink<!--graemlin:;)-->

southeast Michigan - St Clair, Macomb, Oakland, Wayne, Livingston, Monroe and Washtenaw counties to start with. not meaning to cut anyone out, but this could be a starting point. Lots of productive waters around here, including the fish factory known as Lake St Clair. I've probably got the craziest schedule around, but let's talk about the middle of July somewhere. Gwinn is great and i want to go back, but I think we have the same possibilities down here.

A Michigan NAFC chapter sounds like a great idea. I think we need to talk about it lot more and figure out how to get things moving. Seems like a lot will be needed to get it started. This would be something new to me... but I say we should give it a shot..

As the chairman and the one that started getting the ball rolling for the Ohio Chapter, I can tell you , you already have the first key ingrediant. Interest. Now that there are several of you interested pick a place close central to the areas of most interest and make a reservation. Post the date and put it out there on the BB. One or two of you sit down and make an agenda for the meeting. Election of officers, By-laws etc... Meet that day and have a great time. Anytime you meet a fellow member invite them to the meetings. We opened our meetings to members and there spouses. Spouses can be a great help for events.

We had 14 attend our first meeting which was a busy one. We established the chapter and planned our first meet ever in Ohio. Because of all of us working together and organizing we had 58 people attend our first ever meet. Broke all the records. since then we have all stayed in touch and become good friends. The time and effort pays dividens and is well worth it.

I would love to get highly involved.... Just a few problems. One, I don't have a vehicle, and two, I'm trying to work on getting my wife and I out of my inlaws' place. After that, i'm game to do whatever is necessary. I just don't have the money to pour into this to get it started either. However, I can make whatever time is neccessary to get whatever I need to do done. Let me know what I can do and I'll get to work. Also, if we do make it a drive to the first meet, is anybody in the belleville area or around it and willing to pick a guy up for this?

i think with a state as big as ours one chapter is not enough, it should be split into five.

    north east
    north west
    south east
    south west
    and the up

not to slight anyone. i have been wanting to join a local club for a while but if i have to travel all the way to the other end or other side of the state i would not be able to do it. as it sounds like its the same for other members also.

but i am game for oakland county.
