I'm backin Pillman. When I was 6, my grandpa taught me never to snag a fish. Not only did he say it was illegal, but I think it's just simply a poor way of fishing. Learn to work different lures in different conditions on different bodies of water. The payoff is so much more rewarding if you work on doing something to proper way. There's all types of fishing ARC, I'm sure you can come across something that you enjoy other than snagging.

when i was a teenager in the 70's there was an area we would go an snag salmon and it was legal at that time.i know since then it's not.still have a few of the treble hooks with lead weights in the centers.don't snag anymore.not mush of a sporting challenge.like brooo stated;change you tactics and learn from it.enough of them die without being snagged.

Snagging is still legal some places. Illinois at Lincoln Park lagoon. The fisherman are civil, none of north Michigan problems. The only rule is that you must remove any fish landed. Most of the fisherman I see want the fish they catch. They sell snagging hooks at Bass Pro Shop in Indiana.

Well if you like half dead fish and you can't catch em any other way I suggest you travel to someplace it is legal. I snagged them back in the 70's when it was legal mostly to get the spawn for Steelhead fishing. I have seen a few guys snagging them and milking the eggs out then releaseing them not sure if that is legal or not?

What a dumb thing to do when the salmon population is already in trouble. Why can't you just try to catch them instead?

Well when we first got the Salmon here in the late 60's they came up river and spawned and died and people with river property screamed about the mess of all the dead fish. Since they stop eating when they begin to spawn and die there is no real way to legally catch a fish that will not eat.So the DNR allowed Snagging in several places and in several places would even clean your fish and buy the eggs from you Used to be a nice after school job go catch your 5 salmon and get paid for the eggs. As they got the management numbers down they saw no need to continue snagging and also many non Salmon were snagged. I am pretty sure I hooked a large Sturgeon one time as it swam upstream towards the dam and stripped my entire spool of 60 lb test line. Since the fish will not eat I personally have no issues with some one snagging a few for dinner but it has been illegal for many years so do it at your own peril. The number of river caught fish is actually very small as they don't eat. This does not mean you can't get hooks in their mouth Tight lineing works quit well and though not the same as actually catching one is legal another method that works well is annoying them on the beds. Basicly keep tossing into their bed till they get mad and hit it or they often will pick the bait up to move it and then you set the hook.
