To all the fellow fisherman in new jersey:

I need your help! I am as dumb as a box of rocks when it comes to actually catching fish in the ocean, I have been talking to just about everyone and their mother to figure out what I am doing right. I've only caught what is known as dog fish and 2 short stripers since I have begun to fish the salt water. I have pretty much mastered the fresh water and still love to fish fresh water but something has drawn me to the sea, maybe it's because it's a challenge? I don't know for sure but I am in need of some help and I turning on the fish light for help.

Well, first things first. This happens to a lot of people when going fishing on the beach or on the boat. They know they are going to be in the sun so what do they do? they put sun tan lotion on...good idea but bad for fishing..If you use sun tan lotion, MAKE SURE you clean your hands off well or when you touch your bait...it leaves that scent on the bait and no fish is going to bite it. Now if thats not the case, there are some tips and tricks to striper fishing. The best time to go striper fishing is after a pretty bad storm. You go along a jetty and throw a clam belly out there (fresh) not salted. Why? After a strong storm the clams get busted open along the jetty and the stripers go on a feeding frenzy. The world record striper was caught during a hurricane on a jetty, I know the old guy who caught it is nuts but yea, let me know what else kind of fish you fish for in the saltwater. Hopefully this helped somewhat. Again there is a lot to learn about saltwater fishing

I'm no Salt water expert, but Just a small tip.  If you are casting Clams from the beach or a jetty. Sometimes the clams slip off the hook with a strong cast.   Go to your local tackle shop or Dicks or Bass Pro etc. and ask for,  I think it's called MagicWire. It wraps around your clam and holds it snug.
