I am interested to know what other people think about fishing the Hudson river in relation to the pollution issues the river currently is faceing. Do you fish the river? do you keep your catch? I live up river in Albany and many people here simply refuse to fish in the river.

Rumors can hurt a good fishing day. A fisherman will fish any body of water. Don't believe the hype.  If there is a constant flow of water there will be fish. The Hudson is a path for fish to swim up to spawn. and return after spawning. I fish the Hudson in lower N.Y.C. and on the East River. for Stripe Bass and Blue Fish. I also fish the fresh water lakes of N.Y.C. for largemouth, crappies. bluegill, perch.  So go out and give it a try it dosen't hurt to catch and release. Any day on the water is a good day. But catching fish is a better day.

The section of the Hudson River near my home is strictly catch and release for all species of fish. I have not personally fished the area but I have heard many reports of trophy size Bass and other fish being caught in the river. The area is now being dredged  for PCB removal. I have fished the river 20 to 30 miles north of of the PCB laden area near and below the GE plants in Hudson Falls and Fort Edward for trout in past years. I fished the river as catch & release even north of the area considered polluted.
