I'm about 1 1/2 hours from the hudson. I've fished the hudson a couple of times last year once while the stripers were running. But it was towards the tail end of the run. The herring run was over I only caught one and got snagged on the bottom and lost it. No stripers. NY is debating wether or not to close herring fishing. They have all ready close shad fishing. Yet in order to fish the hudson for stripers you need a marine recreation license. I also don't really know what I'm doing when it comes to striper fishing. The people I know just drift with either live herring or herring cut bait. But I have heard others  say they troll and have very good results. When the stripers are in there are thousands of boats on the hudson. Not sure how you would weave in and out of all the boats. I've looked for campgrounds near a boat launch along the hudson and haven't had any luck. There is a state campground on the Hudson down near Hyde park but it doesn't open until mid to late May. The best striper fishing is late April to early May. The largest average size stripers are caught near Kingston NY.

A guy on LOU BB goes every year , his method is anchor , be totally quite , drop over blood worms and adjust if you see fish marks on your depthfinder. That's about all I remember now I'll do some digging I think he stayed on his boat because it has a cuddy if he has a better spot I'll get back to you.
