Went out to Rockaway Reef today...Had no business being out there...lol NOAA forecast was moderate chop with seas at 1-2, it was more like heavy chop with seas at 2-3 and windy as hell...Once we got past Breezy Point, and made it into the ocean, it wasn't that bad. Just had to deal with the constant swells. It was worth the trip. Limited out on Porgies, along with a few Seabass mixed in. All an all...it was a good day.

The blues ought to be coming in soon. I haven't done any salt water fishing in some time.

Where do you fish saltwater Wellsley, in the Hudson? How far up north do the Blue Fish go?
This year, the Blue Fish bite wasn't that great. It was better last year. To be honest it wasn't that great for anything. People say it was or is beacuse of the warm spring and really hot summer were having. I know the water temp is around 77 degrees. Who knows for sure...hopefully the fall run is better. Going to try my luck at the Reef again this friday...Going to try to troll some Bomber A-Longs enroute to the grounds..see what happens...

I use to fish blues in Jamica bay, use to go out of freeport, and port jeff for flounder and fluke. I would fish cod and haddock out of Glouster Ma. I haven't fish salt water in 5 years.

Put my boat in the water this morning...very rough...and windy...made to the docks...lol. During the off season, I installed the new Lowrance HDS 8 with the LSS 1. It's awesome!!!! I didn't really have time to mess with it too much beacuse of the weather/water conditions, but the structure scan is amazing...all I can say is WOW! I made a post earlier in the NY section, If anyone is in the City and would like to go out with me, drop me a line. I live in Queens and fish Jamaica Bay. Right now Flounder, Stripedbass and Blue fish are in season. Take care everyone....

Baresi,

It will take awhile, I can't remember exactly but I think it was 6 to 8 weeks. It is a little lite for salt water. The rod tip breaks easy so be careful with it.

wellsley, thanks...6-8 weks...thats ok, I won't be using it for the "salt". I go upstate about 2-3 times a year camping with the family. Thats when I get my Bass "fix" in. LOL I usually get a bunch of strike king spinner baits and jigs, some berkley power worms, some booyah and z-man lures and I pretend I'm Mike Iaconelli or KVD when I'm fishing...LOL. I have good tackle for the fresh water (i'm a fan of Quantum)...I was just curious as to when it would come. I probably won't be using i t at all...
