Hi Its Bob again.Just a quicky .Artists holds some good bass and alot of Pickerel. You can fish it all season the grass doe not get that high in the lake but the coves in the south end and west end do get weeded up big time but if you take the time(not easy at all) but some of the big boys hang there,I have caught a 28 in Pickerel  there off the shore buy the pipe on the north side right off the road. The lake stays clear of weeds although they do come up in some of the areas but for the most part its clear.I found it to be better when the water was high. There is something about low water  as it forces the fish to hold up in pockets of deeper water so if you find them there you can catch a few without moveing to much.High water gives them new feeding areas and the bass and mostly the Pickerel hang up in the shallows to ambush and sunbath in the summer heat.Well again hope this helped you some Bob

There are yellow perch there, also and the occasional bullhead.

The lake does weed over, mostly from the fertilizer draining in from the private lawns along the shoreline.  I think it's legislated, now but you know how that goes..............  I've taken good numbers of fish from Artist Lake but never anything to brag about.  Snapping turtles are the biggest things you are likely to catch there.  The lake needs a pike-like fish or a muskie-like fish.  The bass have big bass heads but the bodies are too thin; a sign of stunting.  The crappie are successfully competeing with bass for the forage.  Maybe the lake needs an infusion of a small sized (up to 4 ") forage fish that's extremely prolific, hardy and fast growing, that's purely vegetarian and highly nutricious; then, there'd be plenty of food for all the carnivoires and the fishing would go off the scale!!

    Then I woke up...................
