Good morning to all... aahhh it is a beautiful morning here in the Adirondacks. There is a slight breeze and the birds are singing as I sit on my deck here at camp. Wellsley is was great to see you this past week with your lovely wife out in your boat fishing on Lake George. We did end up bringing back two nice Lakers that we kept to camp and put them on the fillet table. I think we boated 7 or 8 Lakers before the day was done. It was just a nice day on the beautiful waters of Lake George.

Yesterday was another beautiful and near perfect day. Another friend and I spent the day out in my boat on Lake Champlain. We boated 6 very nice Landlocked Salmon and we kept 3 of them as they all looked like perfect specimens for our dinner plates. The Larger of the 3 we kept was 22 inches and 3 1/2 pounds. I am lucky to have boated that Salmon because it tangled my fishing line all around my vertical blades hanging on my downrigger line. There we were trying to untangle the blades and my line and this Salmon is out behinh the boat jumping out of the water. That fish was hooked fairly well or it been all over for sure. I lost all 5 of my first Salmon of the day, the first one was at the back of the boat as I waited for my guest to to figure out how to extend the net. I told him to grab the other net and they said ahh forget it, the fish is gone. The next four hook ups were also all Samon because we were able to see every single one as they did airobatics as they jumped out of the water a time or two before throwing the spoon and hook. I think we lost some 8 to 10 Salmon before the day was out as they jumped and splashed around until they threw the hooks. I must admit that I don't think I have enjoyed a day of fishing so much as yesterday in many recent years that I can remember. Never did I laugh so much watching those Salmon do their thing and swim away. All the Salmon we boated went from 17 inches to 22 inches and the ones that jumped to swim another day all were very nice fish too. One Salmon that jumped a number of times and jumped to freedom at the back of the boat looked to maybe be a 6 pounder.

I see more beautiful days of fishing in the Adirondacks ahead for me. Oh I do love being retired.

A good Memorial Day to all. Hey Frank, the carp are really going now (check the photos in my profile). Going to start searching the Tomhannock for a 40 soon as I tend to a few personal quandaries. Saturday was a seven fish day, 5 over 20.

Hey Frank I also had a good day of fishing Memorial Day on Lake George. It was a little slow early in the morning but picked up later in the morning. I boated one real fat Laker that measured 25 inches and tipped the scale at 7 pounds. Oh yeah it went on to the fillet table and we had a lovely dinner tonight with Lake Trout. We also have more fillets in the freezer for another dinner or two.

Consistently until end of June, then the wander lust strikes `em and they start roaming more, which is pretty normal. They just wander farther in rivers than lakes. Best times are morning and evening, middle of the day hits are usually stragglers but a good time to get large amounts of bait in the water for the evening bites. Two or three of your favorite rods and a comfy chair, you're good to go. I sold my Predators to one of the striper guys, so I'm light on rods for guests (unless you want to give them a try on 13 foot ultralight gear, I got all day to wait to net them). Hopefully you go home tired and satisfied.

Morning everybody. Stonecrusher, what bait are you using to catch those big boys? I am wanting to try some carp fishing in June in a nearby lake here.

Two part process. I make a mix of equal parts bread crumbs, oatmeal, cornmeal, and crushed Wheaties, add 2 oz of plain chili powder, one can each of creamed and sweet corn (drained), and about two cups of boiled birdseed. That gets packed around your slip sinker. On a #6 or 8 hook I put two pieces of sweet corn (Del Monte really seems to be the best brand, might be the processing they use) on a short 4 inch snell. Wanted to come up with a mix that could be bought straight off the grocery store shelf for a friend instead of having to mail order the Euro stuff I usually use, this one seems to be working quite nicely. Channel cats seem to like it pretty well, something to keep you occupied in between carp bites. Hope you catch.

Everyone at the park is on strawberry, especially since I caught the 33-4 a few seasons ago, so I decided to throw something different at them this year. You might be relieved to find I don't use nearly as much fermented field corn as I used to either (last trip I used none at all) and the results don't seem to have suffered. The Brits are right, though, carp like some heat to their food, at least within reason. Subtle works best. You could use the strawberry Jell-O instead of the chili powder (pineapple or peach seem to have their fans, too). The whole idea was to let a 15 year old with a lawn mowing gig afford to get the same results (or close to it) as I do using my mail-order Euro baits and flavors and equipment.

Get to spend as much time sitting on a bank not getting bites as I do, you really remember the things that actually work. I have a lot of advantages ...free time, easy access, a spot that produces something even on bad days, so as long as I can live with a day of not doing very well, I get to experiment with things.

Well I have plenty of time now as I retired the end of March. I panfish alot in Spring fall and even ice fishing. I needed to something to fish for in the summer. I have carped fished some in the past, but not on a regular basis. Now all I have to do is get my act together. Thanks again.
