How did everyone do on the tribs today? I know there was probably alot of people, but were there decent #'s of trout around?

I spent quite a while today checking with fishermen at Cayuga Lake tribs... Did not fish myself, I don't bother with spring trib fishing anymore.. Not enough rainbow action to interest me these days,I wait for warmer water, and fish the lake.. I saw a few small browns caught, around 10' or so, and a large sucker. I know at least two huge Walleyes were taken on egg sacs at Fall Creek, and I hear there are a bunch this year under the falls... The ones taken today were reportedly released, but I know a lot of guys run them to their cars and throw them in the trunk.. I hope I never see that because I would write plate #'s down...
A few hits here and there, a few small browns reported, but NO person I talked to either caught, or even saw a Rainbow caught.... I pass Fall Creek several times a day, and those fish have had a good 3 weeks of good water conditions to run up and spawn before today.. I was thinking this to myself , and my theory was the same as many of the experienced fishermen I met today... Could be the bulk of the spawning run has already happened in Cayuga tribs.. It happens some years, where most bows' have come and gone by the opener.. I could be wrong, and the big push may be yet to come, but I tend to doubt it.. Anyway, it looked pretty slow for most with sub legal browns accounting for most of the catch I heard about or witnessed personally... bob

Cayuga Outlet has had the best run of rainbows in many years. DEC personnel have handled over 500 fish there this year - not nearly as many as perhaps 20 years ago, but there have been more quality fish than ever before incl. a 29" 10.5lb beauty. Lots of 5lb fish have moved through. Fish have been in exc. condition (length vs. weight.) I don't know how people did opening day. There are lots of brown trout and LLS in the southern portions of Cayuga Lake right now for those interested.

Landed my personnel best Finger Lakes 'bow yesterday on the lower stretch of Naples Ck. just after 5pm as I was about to throw in the towel. Had fished all day using a variety of eggs, plastics, jigs, flies, etc. only catching a handful of small fingerlings and a couple small browns. Was working my way back to the truck when this hungry girl took a lowly night crawler. Sent her back on her way down to the lake.

Checked along Fall Creek again today... Still no rainbows and guys are complaining, but there are browns and salmon.. One guy landed 3 salmon and a brown, and told me he got two small sub legal rainbows on the opener in Six Mile... He was using egg patterns and a strike indicator... There are fish in the tribs, but man are they low for this time of year!!!
Those fish will take off if we don't get some more water in the creeks.... bob
