Fished CJ Marina 11am- 420 in front of Bait Shop group of 3. Approx 50+ keeper bluegill, some 6-9" crappie, 64th pink or chaetruese ice jig first w\o then with a spike as shadow off roof receded to wall. Area from SW corner of Baitshop to S side of Fuel Pier out to approx. end of gangway has 36 brush blocks most in 8 to 13-14 ft deep at summer pool. Its down 4-4.5 ft. Most are still 90 degrees to the wall- 24 are cedar limbs, hopefully they will last till crappie season.Good luck! |

I don't know if CJ Brown is included in the lakes that the state put a 9 inch limit on crappies. But that law went into effect on Jan. 1 2010. Be careful keeping any crappie under 9 inches. Don't want anybody getting in trouble. |

CJ is infact one of the lakes subject to the new regulations, including a 30 fish limit, which is probably overdue. We actually caught close to 80 total, but released the smaller ones. Smallest crappie kept (11) was 9.5". Am sure with the amount of cover (no "C" trees") in that small an area and up to midday shadow this location should be loaded with panfish, mostly on deeper edge where riprap meets marina basin/ transition zone. Surprised caught no perch! |

I agree the size and creel limit was overdue. I applauded it. There are alot of fish hogs out there that keep everything. There has been a 9 inch limit on crappies in my boat for many years. I think this will improve the quality of fishing in these lakes. |

Last Memorial Day weekend 3 guys were fishing the closest set of posts to the main boat ramp(Crappie City- 30 "C" trees and 20 brush blocks). Before starting John, the boat`s owner said to the others "Where I come from Crappie have to be over 13' to keep them, and we ain`t keep`n no little ones" He then pretty much took over the end of the pontoon over deeper water, catching more than a cople of fine specimens while the 2 on the shallow end struggled to do quite as well. Tom later said they threw dozens of 11's and even some 12.5's back. Finally exasperated, the other guy asked John if he knew how to swim adding the shore was really close and he was sure he`d make it. Between them they kept 40+ 11-14" fish, a very nice haul. Turns out John is from N Mississippi, around Lake Enid- a world renown crappie fishery. Around here throw back a 13' as "too small to keep' would get you a hard stare. |
