I'll be over in SunRiver for the week of the 8th. If anyone wants to get together for a day on the water, let me know, I'll have a couple days solo. I'll have my drift boat and motor along for the trip and will be fishing mostly lakes, but some river fishing as well. I'll be packing the fly rods as well as my spinning gear. Send me a PM and I'll give you my cell number to get in touch. JustDave

What a spectacular week in Central Oregon. Rainbows, Atlantic Salmon, and LM Bass all with fly rods was a great time. We had one day where my son and I got 50+ rainbows on Fall River and 50+ Bass on Davis Lake. Nothing real big, but lots of action to say the least. I had to get back to rehab and work to get a little rest. The nicest part was there just aren't many people fishing this time of year. On Davis Lake, we had maybe 4 boats on the lake each day we were there, including Saturday. Go try it if you get a chance. There are still some monster Trout in that lake and we saw a school of Kokonne (spawning colors) up the Odell Channel. Fish the reeds from about 4:00 on for nonstop Bass action, using Clouser Minnow patterns in various colors, (purple seemed to be the go to). Beef up your leader though, they are not leader shy and I got ripped b a big dog that snapped my 8lb floro on his way back into the weeds. JustDave

Good to hear you had a great time Dave, I hope you healing up good. I'd like to try Davis lake, but I've heard that the boat launch isn't very good and that I probably couldn't get me bass boat in there. Mike Black: Life Member since 2004 from Klamath Falls Oregon |

There is a decent launch and a bad one. Go to the Lava Flow campground on the south end. There is a gated road (was open) west of the main campground which runs paralell to the shore. About a quarter mile down is a spur road to the lake and boat launch (a real one). You could launch a Basser there no problem. The main campground is flat dirt launch. We've put the drift boat in there a few times. Draft is questionable in spots, so we "poled" out to the main lake with the oars, then fired up the motor. There was a Bass boat using that launch on Wednesday. It's fly fishing only which makes it a bit unique for Bass fishing, but it's a good time. You're also within 10-15 miles of Crane Prairie and Wickiup.

Glad to hear that you had a great time. Took my sons out on our boat on the 11th. Tried still fishing, trolling and everything in the box. The high light, found and fixed the problem with the boat and was working great. Jeremy a.k.a. Cletus U.S. Navy-Go Navy, Beat Army!!! NAFC LM, NAHC LM, NRA LM |

Day on the water with your boys. Doesn't get any better than that. It might get hectic on occasion, but trust me, it gets better with age. JustDave

Hectic, fun and enjoyable. Just to be able to spend quality time with them once again is worth it. Yes, as they get older and can do things for themselves will be easier, but to be able to teach them and watch them grow makes it all worth it. My youngest is now just wanting to learn how to cast. That has been fun watching with a casting plug. Jeremy a.k.a. Cletus U.S. Navy-Go Navy, Beat Army!!! NAFC LM, NAHC LM, NRA LM |

Hey Dale, I'm not sure about guru, but I fish a lot in different parts of Oregon. I fly fish maybe 7 days a year when we take our fam vacation in Sun River. A couple of those days we'll target Bass on Davis Lake. It's fly fishing only and used to be trophy Trout lake until someone illegally planted Bass. The Bass are not hard to catch along the reeds out there for sure. We make a few trips a year for Bass other than that both LM and SM, but I'm sure there will be more help from others on the board. My main target fish are Salmon and Steelhead on the northern coast rivers and I spend most weekends from Oct - April somewhere chasing them. There should be some tackle/fly shops down your way for pointers as well. Start a new topic in the Oregon section asking for help in your area. And ask for help in the Bass and Flyfishing forums, you'll get responses. I think there are a few members closer to you than I am. I'm in the Portland area. Enjoy yourself at Diamond, I hear it's coming back strong with the fish they are putting in, but I don't think there'll be any Bass, mainly the big Trout it used to be famous for. JustDave
