I was about 6 miles below where  you caught your fish.  We fish closer to salt water in the early parts of the run as each rain event brings in a wave of fresh fish.  We had a pretty good rain Friday which brought in the bunch I was fishing for yesterday and again tomorrow.  I'll be taking the boat tomorrow though.  The river has dropped about a foot since Sat and is now about 3-4ft lower than your trip, so I'll probably get to drag it in a few spots depending on where we put in.  More rain coming Thursday for a few days, so hopefully the river won't blow out and we can get in a trip or two on the weekend.  I'll post up the results of tomorrows trip.

Nothing very good to report other than a beautiful day for a boat ride last Wed, but I did manage to row a double drift without issues health wise.  I just keep getting stronger all the time and am even thinking I might renew my Guide license in Jan.  The river was really low so there was a lot more rowing than normal and we had to drag it in a couple spots.  Since then, the river has been going up and down like a yoyo and my timing is rotten.  Days I can go are on the upswing instead of the downswing when the fishing would be good.  So I just haven't gone.  Too expensive to just go for a boat ride, so I'd like to spend the money when the odds are more in my favor of catching a fish or two.  I'm thinking I might go to the Kilches tomorrow and fish where we did that the Chinook kept giving us the fin.  I'm going to target Chum Salmon which are C&R only but great fighters.  The season for them closes Sunday, and I haven't fished for them for a few years.  Then Saturday back to the Nestucca for Chinook again.

So very glad to hear that your feeling so much better health wise. Glad you were able to enjoy a double drift in nice weather. So, how did the Kilches go?

I din't make it down there, had to work getting ready for the trip I'm on in San Jose.  But I did make it out yesterday and scored this nice Chinook on the Nestucca.  Guide boat in the background along with another you can't see behind him got zeroed on the day.  So I feel pretty good about that.

Dave, Glad to hear that you are getting healther as the year has gone on. Nice kings by the way. Colton and I ar gearing up for the steelies up here. We have done a little drifting practice while the humpies were coming in. Caught a few with your jigs(pink, pink/purple). Colton did good with the bead style jigs you gave. Will send pictures your way if we land any metal.

Here's crazy Matt and Andrew with a nice fish from the holiday weekend.  If you pick up a December issue of Salmon, Trout, Steelheader there is a good article on jig fishing Matt submitted.  I was fortunate enough to be the photographer for a couple of his pics.  Other great articles as well.

If you need an excuse, use it.  Winter Steelhead is just starting up and Chinook are winding down, so still plenty of opportunities for big, bright fish.

hey dave you make me cry you lucky dog .nice fish where did you pull that nice out of ? i will be in portland the week of 5/4-4/9 /10 my brother and i my go fishing i HOPE . god bless ps bad part is i am coming up on the train so i cant stop on the way .
