I went to Loch Raven Res. in Baltimore County with a buddy yesterday morning to dunk a few big shiners for some pickerals and pike. The weeds we so thick that most techniques were impossible. After about two really slow hours of tangles and hang ups we decided to cut our losses and go to a nearby community pond to do some "Tom Sawyer" fishing for sunnies. So we each hooked a small hunk of worm on to the hook and dropped it 3' under a red float. About two minutes later, my buddies float went under and he set the hook expecting a typical community pond 6" blue gill. What he got was a 20" channel cat that doubled over his ultra light and ran him all around the bank. Over the next two hours, in the heat of the day, we caught several more cats in the same manner. My biggest was 23". We also got several gills and I got a largemouth. A trip that had started so poorly turned into a really fun event. The day was saved by some whiskered superheroes!
