I'm in the same (figurative) boat. I'm in Sumter and trying to find places in the Midlands to take my daughter bank fishing. The only spot we know of that is open to the public is Ashwood Lake, which hasn't been that good. In the 3 years we've been going there, I've landed one small smallmouth and a very large mudfish that nobody could identify (could be one of the Asian carp referenced on the signs that were added for vegetation control, but none of the other anglers knew what it was). And it's not just us, either. I talk to just about everyone I run into here and have yet to meet someone that had any luck.

This link might help you out some.

Several of the state parks are on the lakes and offer fishing piers or bank fishing.

Thanks, Riverrat. I haven't been out to Manchester to fish the park lake, yet, as I've been hoping to find something closer. The DNR site hasn't been that much help as that's where I discovered Ashwood Lake several years ago (and it seems to be the only local public bank fishing location listed; not much else in the area without driving ~1 hour).
Does anyone know if Ardis Pond in Dalzell is open to the public? I've driven over there to check it out but can't find any indications that it is (there's one little pull-off area as soon as you turn on Ardis Pond Rd, but there's also a water meter or something there so I couldn't tell if that's what it was for or not), and nobody would answer their doors when I'd stop and knock to ask.
