There are several lakes in the area that are excellent bass, hybrid, whites, catfish and bream fisheries. Some are Lake Houston, Lake Conroe, Lake Livingston, Sam Rayburn and Toledo Bend to name a few along with the San Jacinto river and the Trinity River. There are also several creeks and bayou's that spread out over the area. To the East is the Sabine river. If you are into saltwater fishing there are several bay and estuaries as well as the Gulf of Mexico to stretch your line in. I am not particularly in love with the Houston area but I am here because the weather is great and the fishing is fantastic.I might also mention that there are several smaller lakes in the region that are accessable to fishermen but must be checked to see if boats with motors are allowed. We have some of the best flounder and red fishing in the area with good offshore cobia, red snapper, dorado, grouper, yellow fin tuna, spanish and king mackeral and a little further out the albacore and black fin tuna are found. There is oyster reefs, clams and shrimp to harvest, inshore is where you find some great fishing for snook, permit, bonefish and other species that frequent the flats. You can find more about fishing in the Houston area by going here to http://www.tpwd.state.tx.us/ if the link doesn't work just copy and paste it in your browser. Hope this will help you

Lake Livingston is an awesome caatfishing hole. Largest numbers of Blues in the area with plenty of channels and some flatheads. Large mouth are there but you have to work for the big ones. It's also a decent crappie magnet in the north end of the lake. Below the dam is awesome. I have caught carp, cats, Stripers, gar, spoonbill cats (endangered) and white bass. It ain't really clean on the shore but if yore in a boat you can have a blast.
